Duffy ad gets complaints

You've probably seen the strange Coke ad featuring Duffy riding her bike around a supermarket and dark streets in search for a can of the soft drink. It's had a number of complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority. Not because it's generally annoying, but because Duffy's not got any lights on her bike.

However, all of the complaints were rejected as the ASA said the ad was based on fantasy. They said "Because of the fantasy context we concluded that the ad did not condone behaviour prejudicial to health and safety."

They added that older children would realise cycling round a supermarket was an unrealistic scenario. Really?!!

Fortunately this hasn't set a precedent as I'm sure there are a gazillion ads that are based on "fantasy" and if we took them seriously, there'd probably be no ads left on TV.
