It was always a little obvious that the grunting exhibited by players such as Monica Seles and Maria Sharpova was less about exertion and more about the psyche out. Now it's been revealed (not that it was ever a secret really) that the top grunters of the game all trained at the same tennis school. Martina Navratilova has been speaking out about how much it interferes with the opponent playing a grunter.
OK so little mind games have always permeated the game (Mary Pierce's obsessive bouncing of the ball before she served for example), but never has one been so annoying.
