Tampax makes an indie that you've got to watch

abbym0308
It's like Juno meets The Hot Chick. Tampax has created a bizarre viral marketing campaign that attempts to bridge the gap of misunderstanding between teenage boys and girls. Meet Zack Johnson, an average 16-year-old high school guy who wakes up to find his penis gone and in its place a fully functioning vagina. Rather than freak out, he decides to play it cool and make a sweet and subtle film (and blog and twitter account) about dealing with puberty and periods. Of course, in the end it's Tampax who makes everything ok.

I can't decide if this is genius or just plain weirdness. And how is this going to sell tampons? Tampax, so reliable that even guys would use them? What do you make of this?

    • This could stand up as a brilliant short film in its own right. A few seconds in and I forgot I was watching an ad. Great work indeed.

    • It's nice to see something a little different from an advertiser and I really loved the mini movie, it was cute.
I get the impression this ad may be made to make guys feel sympathetic towards girls. But also I can see it making girls smile.
With this Tampax gets associated with indie-movie coolness and a cute lil story that makes people smile and so could work on selling Tampax. I think it's a good ad.

    • The voiceovers, the camera work. it's so Sophia Coppela. I love it, not sure it's going to sell a lot of Tampax but it's pretty awesome.

    • Seriously good move on thier part - forward thinking, risky. I'm a little surprised that the brand manager working this campaign was willing to go down this route. Loving the camerawork.
