A new art gallery is set to open in San Francisco, with its debut event showcasing the work of Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, it has been announced.

The 2,000 square foot Superfrog gallery is due to open its doors on August 15th and will feature a range of work from those in the art world who draw on Japanese culture for their inspiration.

Superfrog will be located in the New People building in San Francisco's Japantown.

Events at the gallery will begin with a showcase of DEVA LOKA, the latest work from Yoshitaka Amano, who is known for designing the characters in video game Final Fantasy.

He said that returning to the US to show his art would help him express gratitude for the inspiration he got for his work from American culture.

Mr Amano went on to note that during the 60s and 70s, he was "greatly influenced" by American comics and pop culture.
