miami is the perfect place to investigate this issue, i like the opposing views y'all found.
but overall, diversity needs to be celebrated and welcomed. - 2 years ago

First of all Max and Jason, I love your show and your pods! Okay, I don't hate illegal immigrants or anything like that, my family immigrated from russia and germany to escape persecution and hardship during world war two,and I think they were illegal too,but thats the differance! They came to escape oppression, busted their asses, learned eglish from a much harder language then spanish(cyrillic) and were persecuted for a very long time here by americans at that time. Mexicans who immigrate to the us are not escaping political or religious persecution or anything like that, many become drug dealers and join gangs(not saying that regular americans don't but they are contributing to the problem) many continue to force their language upon americans (if my grandparents spoke their native tongues in public they received persecution) note: the recent rumors about the pledge of allegiance being put into spanish. Many curse americans out in spanish and assume americans are dumb and can't understand(I speak from experience.) and there are infinite programs out there to help illegal immigrants and hispanics in general, but no one cares about white people. Just that title in it's self is bullshit "white" people or "caucasion" the more politically correct form of racism toward whites. Why do blacks get"african-american", mexicans, puerto ricans, ect. get "hispanic" or "latin-american" and we get "white" last i checked my skin wasn't white, or we get "caucasion" not all white people came from the caucas mountains you know, infact caucasion is actually an insult to some like my family which is russian. People say "oh those poor latin-americans, those poor illegal immigrants. let's help them" but they forget that even white people have received persecution! Like I said, I don't hate illegal immigrants, and I don't hate hispanics or blacks, as long as they treat me with respect, Ill treat them with respect. but if we are going to strive for eguality and acceptance, then let's do it EQUALLY! stop punishing every white person for shit that happened years ago and most living now weren't even apart of (note: my family didn''t exist in the united states until the end of world war two) Don't treat one race better then the others, that includes treating hispanics and blacks better then whites,(did you know that white women are considered minorities?)treat everyone equally! Don't give tax-cuts, and SAT breaks, ect. to hispanics without giving them to everyone else, including whites, don't have spanish translations on products unless you're going to have chinese, japanese, arabic, russian, german, farsii, croation, ect. Because if you don't, believe it or not, that's racism! So in short, just be equal to everyone, not just people you can persuade to vote for you or people you can get to work for unfair wages. And for reference, I perfer to be called "Slavik-American" or "Russian-American", not "white" or "caucasion" or "craker" or "honkey" or "gringa" or any of that shit. So thanks for berring with me, and Salaam people!

i wish every city was as great as Miami. i have been there and i have friends there, and every i am down there i feel more at home then Philadelphia at times, because of the fact that people get a long and enjoy life.
Daft punk said it best. "WE ARE HUMAN AFTER ALL"
why cant we get along. it seems like we haven't learned from this Obama slogan called "Change" America still has underlying racism that people push it off as immigration issues, and what the people who are pussing these issues dint seem to understand is that they them selfs are a few generation immigrantsKinda like what happened on the Air-Tran flight
where a AMERICAN-Muslim family got kicked off a flight for talking about the safest place to sit on a plane. Its the same type of stuff i talk about when i am flying some where, but i know i wont get kicked off for talking about it. why because i am not Muslim - 3 years ago

I agree with you Gregory7222 that's true how people think they are the same.
And it's true that if you can't speak Spanish it's hard to go out in Miami itself. There's a city that is maybe the majority of Latins live there, Hialeah. Cubans, Venezuelan, Colombian, and more lives in this area.
In Hialeah if you can't speak Spanish it's hard to conduct business there. But then again in South Florida you have to be at least bilingual.
This was a great pod, with different views from a diverse group of people. Good job!

nice pod. i like that you talked to so many people, and got some different perspectives. kind of sad that most people you interviewed only view third world people as immigrants. what about all of the earlier, and ongoing waves of european immigrants? interesting...

There are some great honest responses here. I''d be happy to hear more about the wealthy immigrants and what role they play in defining the culture & community.
I also invite you to check out my first pod, We Create.

With all the talk of diversity in this piece there were no Black Latinos interviewed. This would have amplified the African American complaint because even though Black Latinos speak Spanish they still are discriminated against. Overall the piece was a good excuse to interview good looking white Latinas in bikinis.

In terms of the political consultant looking like Al Pacino, I 100% agree. Actually, he has the look of an actor in Hollywod!

Indeed, J. The opening shot there is from the Rickenbacker Causeway heading to Key Biscayne. Miami is rarely photoed from that spot and yet, I think, it's the sickest view.
Always, always, seeks out alternative shots for stuff on Current. - 4 years ago

This pod was shot with our favorite camera, the Panasonic DVX-100. Making journalism look like an art film (and of course the scenic Miami backdrop doesn't hurt, either).
