March for the Kidnapped

Gustavo Moncayo is an elementary school teacher in Sandona, Narino province (southeast of Colombia). His son, Private Pablo Emilio Moncayo is one of the soldiers who has been held hostage by the FARC for the longest time, as he was kidnapped in 1997. Driven by despair, profesor Moncayo, decided 6 months ago to chain his hands in protest against the situation of his son. Later, aware that his effort was achieving hardly anything, decides to start a walk through half of this country (his hometown is 1005 kilometers far from Bogota) to the capital city with the hope to get his son free again or to put pressure on the government and the FARC to start a humanitarian agreement to help all people held hostage in Colombia. His journey started more than one month ago he doesn't walk alone anymore, as people join him in every town he has passed by.

    • It is unfortunate how people can do so much damage to others and how the armed revolutionary forces of colombia (farc) have put in vain once again the ideals of a perfect equal society.

    • I'm Colombian but I've lived in the states since I was four years old. I rarely see anything about Colombia in the news but when I do, it's always really negative. Of course, I'm not naive, and I totally believe that the country's problems should have light shed on them, but I would REALLY love to see more positive representations. Colombia is an amazingly beautiful country that, if it weren't for it's reputation, would be the ultimate tourist attraction. The regions are vast (you name it...sandy beaches, lush tropics, snowy peaks...Colombia's got it), the people are beautiful and hospitable, and the food is the best part of it all!

I love visiting whenever I get the chance.

This video is a little cheesy but it is right on (with the exception of the soccer team mention)! I'm not ignoring the realities that plague many parts and people in Colombia, but I do believe that we can appreciate and emphasize what the country DOES have to offer.

    • LOOK!!!! this is bullshit!!!!!! it sucks that so many people is kidnapped, the problem is not just FARC, the government has done SO MUCH MORE DAMAGE!!!!

IT SHOULDNT BE NO MORE FARC, IT SHOULD BE NO MORE WAR!!!! everytime the colombian military kills innocent people, the Government, THE PRESIDENT URIBE VELEZ JUSTIFIES IT!!!!!

I am colombian, I am from that same city Barranquilla, most of people that are kidnapped are WEALTHY, THATS WHY THEY GET THE ATTENTION, what about the farmers? what about the children? what about the tortures, please if someone is reading this and you want more information I am more than willing to share it with you. I live in Canada and many Colombians call me a guerrilera(guerrilla girl) or terrorist coz I DO NOT SUPPORT URIBE VELEZ GOVERNMENT, he won the ellections by torturing people!!! there are records, there are witnesses, but if they speak they get killed, the ones that have spoken ARE DEAD!!!!!,

It is good that people come together, but its bad that they only march for this cause, there are many reasons why all colombians and our planet should march for, the world terrorist is SO TRENDY RIGHT NOW!!! HOLY SHIT!!! AND WHO MADE IT POPULAR? ????
------B U S H------- the colombian government supports the u.s administartion 110%, he wants to privatize many schools so a lot of people do not have the opportunity to study, man..its just so much evil....

Issues always have many sides, this one in particular indeed has lots of them, I stand on the side of the innocent people, not just the kidnapped ones, but the ones that are starving because they are black, the ones that have no school because they are indian, the ones that have no legs because they did not went to bed at the time the paramilitary sent them to bed.

The Paramilitary in Colombia has special privileges, but they are supported by the government so the government always find the way to justify their actions of hate and torture towards the innocent.

THE PROBLEM IN COLOMBIA IS NOT JUST FARC!!!

IT SHOULD NOT BE NO MORE FARC

IT SHOULD BE NO MORE WAR!!!!!!

    • It is very painful to see how the Colombian families suffer for the kidnapping of their loved ones, our fellow citizens, we can not allow this group of heartless terrorists of the FARC leave our brothers and sisters dying in the jungles...

      Very good job!
