Rites of passage that or more clearly defined such as seen here, sure would have been useful when I was finding my way.

It is good that you bring info to people but understand the reasoning and purpose of the culture. Most of the rituals and ceremonies in Africa are considered sacred especially Maasai and in regards to what you have posted. Im not from Maasai but i know of African cultures and everything has to be respected.
Some westerners like documenting such videos for their own benefit without letting the photographed know where their images end up.
Im sure if they knew they would be very offended. This is total lack of respect. If the Maasai only knew how they are being portrayed in the world they would bring such exploitation to a stop.
If you really want to make a difference you should approach the community and understand why they do it and why they should stop. Or go about professionally as an anthropologist would do. - 3 years ago

Interesting, but they are actually probably not named until they are five b/c in some tribal cultures they believe that until a certain age a person is unable to fend off evil spirits and if they name the child then it makes it easier for the evil spirits to find them. (Or in other cases they will give the child a real name in which only the child and the parrents know and fake name to confuse the evil spirits.)

Amazing video. How do you guys get to know which village go? Which are safe? How to get there?
These guys do have a big excuse for the use of weed and drugs... :)

Wow, is really all one can say about this. I find it amazing that there are still cultures that have been able to remain free from the influences of "modern society," and continue the practice of these age old traditions.
Cheers for the upload of this pod.

I visited the massai mara in the fall of '05 and their culture is uber fascinating. Their right of passage rituals and dances are quite unique, and as this video shows, their traditions and practices are passed down from one generation to the next without change.
