    • Talibans & liberal talibans, but moderates still alive.
It's a great shame that on one side the world is watching 1 extreme that is "Taliban", who slaughter people, kill people, burn school for their personal motives, and now there is a another extreme who wants to represent Pakistan "Liberal Talibans" like Hammad Khan, such people thinks that progress lies in drinking, dating, doing parties despite the terror attacks on their city, somebody tell them that such things are the weak points of West, & *When Apple fell on Newton's head he was reading a book under tree, and not dancing in the night club (So this is the way to progress "Liberal Talibans" & not what you think) *E=mc square formula researched by Einstein in a lab, and not while dating. (So this is the way to progress "Liberal Talibans" & not what you think) *Everyone who did service to humanity did that outside night clubs, they were not drinking while inventing something and they were not certainly not on a date when they were formulating their scientific research. "Is there anybody in Pakistan other than "Talibans" & "Liberal Talibans" who portray the real moderate image of Pakistan, who are neither violent like Taliban nor vulgar like liberal talibans? is there anybody who portrays the REAL PAKISTAN? which is moderate? which is us."

In every 8 to 10 second a rape took place in america you and your society is not in a moral position to condemn any nation and let me remind you when taliban was controlling afghanistan there were peace there no rapes no killings . and you should ask this question to your government because your troops are raping and killing innocent beings in afghanistan and in iraq so called PEACE KEEPERS

    • After gone to some of these 'underground' parties in Karachi and lahore, i must say, Pakistan is still light years away in creating a true club culture seen in other asian countries such as mumbai, singapore, tokyo.

The problem lies in the fact, these parties are catered for the niche group of young people, who have too much disposable income and time on their hands. The social acceptance of such events is very taboo, unless you are rich, have influence. 99% of the country does not fall into this category.

Unfortunately due to travel restrictions for pakistani nationals to travel abroad and experience real nightlife, this is the only club culture the country is relegated to.

It's a good attempt, but, I do think the elitist attitude which is displayed some in the video very un-becoming. Club culture in the rest of the world, in particular, house music is about the music and being free, not exclusivity. As a DJ myself in the USA, I am glad to see progression, but the country has bigger problems to deal with first i.e. fundamentalism, terrorism, and equal rights for women before a discussion on clubbing in the country can truly be discussed.

It's up to young the people of Pakistan to stand up and speak out against the fundamentalism growing in the country (see Iran). Once a movement is created, then, real freedom of ideas, music, expression will come about.

    • well if this is real face of pk then may be i'm an alien. what was the purpose of this video anyway. first of all trans is not the only music to enjoy. but yep, may be its good to listen it while fornicating chicks and smoking joints. it does add to it.
I can say so many things here but i'm not here to judge anyone but one this for sure that this only represents .0001 % of elite brats of this country that is rather tragic.

Relax Bisma. No need to impose your brand of Shariah on the rest of the girls in Pakistan. Some of us would like to party and we'd really like those of you who choose dars and milaad instead to keep their ideas to themselves. Why should we have to hide our fun while you flaunt it everywhere? Even on our TV? I'm gonna go to my own grave. Please stop worrying about me. Or are you envious our types have more fun? Peace.

    • Being from Pakistan myself i was very excited to watch this pod until that dude in the end ruined it with his epileptic dancing. Anywho, from what i have been told the underground club culture is thriving in Pakistan's major cities like Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. I have not been back since i moved to the states back in early 90's, but a gay friend of mine told me back in 97 that he attended a few gay parties in Lahore with a vibrant underground dance culture but things are still hush hush and most clubs and parties are organized over the internet at undisclosed locations to a select few, but that was 12 years ago. I am happy to see the youth of my country enjoying themselves but the culture is in its infancy, much like the club culture in Iran. Pakistan had a club culture i am told by my parents, in the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto era back in the 70's, but regime changes, muslim extremists and an uncertain political system has stunted the modernization of an otherwise progressive country. Karachi being the only seaport city in the Nation has always been more progressive but because of the internet and a global economy all the major cities of Pakistan are seeing a renaissance of modernization. Bare also in mind that Pakistan produces some of the best musical talents of the sub continet like: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Nazia Hassan, Ali Azmat, Ali zafar, Atif Aslam to name a few.

    • Don't know what the letters in your icon mean, BFAM, but as calligraphy they're definitely lovely! :-)

What strikes me in thinking about the subcontinent is first the difficulty I as an American have in comprehending its complex variety of cultures. Gotta say that Forster's *Passage to India*, which I first read in 1963, still resonates. With the best will in the world, it's still discouragingly difficult to make contact, much less attain understanding, across cultural divides.

In economically depressed parts of India, it's understood and accepted that families will sell daughters into prostitution. At the same time, India is known for its prudery, with theaters being destroyed by crowds angered by even minor nudity or religious/political "transgressions." (Like the U.S., where Facebook has removed images of women nursing their babies, but where I've been solicited by streetwalkers in Mid-Manhattan every time I've visited New York.)

Regarding Pakistan I see a story one week where a young teenage girl is stoned to death for the "crime" of having been violently raped, completely against her will. And the next week I see a story where young people in Karachi are dancing the night away...revealing a lot more and indulging in a lot a more than Sharia law would condone. Again, same as the U.S. in principle (though killing a child for having been violently raped is relatively rare here).

P.S. Regardless of cultural or regional or religious derivation, I do love Indian cooking. I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful source of Indian cuisine right here in the big town/small city where I live. Check it out, and if you're in the area treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience:

      http://cressrestaurant.com/

P.S. For the record, this is a totally unsolicited recommendation. :-)

    • Scarabus:

It stands for "OM" It is from the ancient texts of Hindu wisdom. I was born in india, I've heard about many bizzare things that happen in different layers of the populace but never about families sending their daughters into prostitution. Where did you hear that? It is definitely not widely practiced.

    • Scarabus:

Interesting that I've had a sudden influx of responses to this post. Whatever the reason, they're welcome, even when intended to be insulting.

Anyhow, I might be a "fuck," and I'm certainly less informed than I would wish. I'm not dumb, though. I do know that sharia (regardless of how it's transliterated) is not the official law of Pakistan. I also know that, especially toward the north, central authority loses force and tribal loyalties begin to prevail. Often under influence of organizations forced south by U.S. presence.

Parallels within the borders of the U.S. are easy enough to find.

But isn't the important thing that we find *positive* parallels? In every dispute those encouraging conflict try to depict the opponent as "other," "different," "alien," less than human. Shouldn't we be trying to find examples of the exact opposite principle if we want to avoid violence and promote world community?

Two British poems from WW I. I'll be grateful for suggestions of Middle Eastern parallels. Attacks on me are OK. If it helps, vent your spleen. But constructive contributions are much more productive for international understanding.

      The Man He Killed
      Thomas Hardy

Had he and I but met
      By some old ancient inn,
We should have set us down to wet
      Right many a nipperkin!

      But ranged as infantry,
      And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And killed him in his place.

      I shot him dead because--
      Because he was my foe,
      Just so: my foe of course he was;
      That's clear enough; although

      He thought he'd 'list, perhaps,
      Off-hand like--just as I--
Was out of work--had sold his traps--
      No other reason why.

Yes; quaint and curious war is!
      You shoot a fellow down
You'd treat, if met where any bar is,
Or help to half a crown.

      * * * * *

      Vergissmeinicht
      Keith Douglas

Three weeks gone and the combatants gone
      returning over the nightmare ground
we found the place again, and found
the soldier sprawling in the sun.

The frowning barrel of his gun
      overshadowing. As we came on
that day, he hit my tank with one
like the entry of a demon.

Look. Here in the gunpit spoil
the dishonoured picture of his girl
      who has put: Steffi. Vergissmeinnicht.
      in a copybook gothic script.

We see him almost with content,
abased, and seeming to have paid
and mocked at by his own equipment
that's hard and good when he's decayed.

But she would weep to see today
      how on his skin the swart flies move;
the dust upon the paper eye
and the burst stomach like a cave.

For here the lover and killer are mingled
who had one body and one heart.
And death who had the soldier singled
has done the lover mortal hurt.

[For my friend Al: That’s not an error in the title. Vergessen is an irregular verb that governs the genitive rather than the accusative.]

    • A great insight into the something I had no real knowledge of. Good job!

According to recent figures published by leading Asian drugs charity Nafas, there's been a huge increase in the amount of young Asian woman taking 'hard drugs' in the UK.

Nafas claims it's treating 20 to 25 women for heroin addiction a year in east London alone - a number that they think is 'only the tip of the iceberg.'

In reality I want to visit many places in the middle east for myself and experience the culture first-hand.

    • This leaves me with more questions than answers. In one part of Pakistan girls are being murdered because they've gone to school or been raped. In another part of Pakistan girls are, well, doing what we see in the video.

Which is most representative of the "real" Pakistan? How can a reasonably intelligent, well-educated, caring American like me understand the reality?

it's like the US. You have the middle class Americans living in suburbia, you have rural America and then you have your ridiculously wealthy. Which one is the real representation of the US? It's all of them together. You can't just lump people into one category and call it a day.

Simple. Pakistan is a country of 160 million people. Like any other society we are a mix of all kinds of people with all kinds of opinions and attitudes towards life. Why is there a need for 'one' representation of a whole country? Are all Americans the same everywhere?
