hehe, ya i guess there are more jobs currently for pole dancers than gymnasts, here is a joke I saw about pole dancing in the Olympics and demonstrative sports, http://ponderingstuff.com/2011/06/12/pole-dancing-olympics/

Well why not! Stripaerobics and pole dancing classes are becoming more popular and in demand everywhere. And these classes don't simply teach someone how to pole dance, it's like any other fitness class. I went to my first class the other day and you go home feeling amazing. So yeah, put it in with the gymnastics and other olympic sports, because pole dancing is just as athletic as ice skating, just way hotter and in the long run, you can probably find more jobs as a pole dancer than being a gymnast! :P

Well its ABOUT DAMN TIME! Finally something worthwhile in the Olympics to watch! Hey if curling and so-called rhythmic gymnastics can be an Olympic sport then why not pole dancing?

No brainer, of course.( And ice dancers should be nude.)
p.s.--That whole ice dancing thing would be more interesting if they broke the competition up by "weight class"; I would love to see a 225 lbs. male gymnast type do the same moves- probably not as "tight", but THINK of the increase in raw power. As it is 98lb. itty gurls are going to take the gold every time. - 2 years ago

Has anyone mentioned that you would have to open it up to men? Men pole dancers! I think they might be at a distinct disadvantage due to having testicles.

I think pole dancing should be done in the areas were it is suited most (porn movies and adult clubs), but making it into an olympic sport is mostly a no-go area. Imagine if this event got the green light:
Anounncer: That was the cycling and now we go live to BBC2 were we will see the rowing, equestrian and even the pole dancing event gets under way in quite a unique fashion.
I just can't imagine that happening watching this event in the early hours of the morning or in the afternoon.

I actually think the pole dancing fitness revolution is great, but I think asking for Olympic status is going a bit far, as there are sports that have been around longer and have a larger following that are not in the games, like netball

Whether or not a sport is made an Olympic sport is meant to be down to the motto; "Swifter, Higher, Stronger." If a discipline fits into one of those 3 categories it can be considered for Olympic status.
Maybe pole dancing could strive for "higher" ?

If it does make it in that will be 2 women's events worth watching along with the beach volleyball. Pardon my ignorance but would the Pole dancing involve de-robing or just the technical aspect?

Combine it with pole vaulting and you've got one interesting sport.
Here's my favourite vole vaulting joke, by the way:
A man goes up to an athlete at the Olympics and asks, "Are you a Pole Vaulter?"
"Nein, I'm German," the man replies "and how did you know my name?" - 2 years ago

How ridiculous!! NETBALL isn't even an olympic sport, but yet they want to introduce pole dancing!!
When sexual implications are in EVERYTHING nowadays and to a large extent, how can the government be stunned by the amount of teenage pregnancy there is in Britain?!
Whatever next...how many rounds a couple can go before they are completely tired!!

The main thing holding them back is the sexual implications of pole dancing. Mom will not approve of her kids watching this during the olympics

Pole dancers amaze me. If synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics can be called Olympic sports, why not pole dancing?
