Earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris told a Memphis TV station that Stanley should “do the right thing for his family’s sake and for the sake of his constituents” and step down so a new election for his seat can be held.
Norris said in a statement released Tuesday that Republican leaders have been working behind the scenes for about a week to get Stanley to step down. Stanley told agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that he had a sexual relationship with the intern, McKensie Morrison, a 22-year-old Austin Peay student from Dickson, but has declined to speak publicly about the matter. He may be doing an interview with a Memphis radio station within the hour.
Stanley statement
Dear Governor Ramsey:
It has been an honor to serve with you in the State Senate in the 105th and 106th General Assemblies. Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10, 2009.
Thank you for your service as our Speaker of the Senate and Lieutenant Governor.
Respectfully yours,
Paul Stanley
Senate District 31

The point that I think MotherforTruth is missing is that the Republicans have tried to fix policy around a moral "high ground". They are legislating morality with wedge issues like gay marriage, abortion and family values, yet they themselves are completely immoral in their personal lives. Either you are a good person and Christ-like or you are not. But, don't tell me I have to be "good" by law, if you won't stick to the same standards Senator!!

Well, I'm in two minds here (no comments from the peanut gallery)...I don't care where anyone dips their doodle, these things happen for a myriad of reasons...BUT, unfortunately, everyone in office has to present a squeaky clean agenda all across the board...

I'll wager dollars to doughnuts this douche bag was a strong supporter of family values!
It aint the sex, it is the hypocrisy.
No doubt Paul just wanted to "rock and roll all night, and party every day!"

And how does this affect his job? Why someone’s bedroom needs to be everyone's business?

Family matters should stay family matters. Would you fire an employee if she/he was not faithful to their spouse? I refuse to be distracted from the real issues in our country.

MotherForTruth:
I think that logic would have merit if that had been the case when Clinton had his affair but the Republicans chose to drag it into center stage and use it as a reason to try to get Clinton out of office.
Now it seems to me the Republicans are the ones getting caught with their pants down and crying over their personal privacy being invaded.
Too bad! What comes around, goes around.

Clinton ended up in front of Congress in an impeachment hearing and he wasn't even trying to set policy based on a moral code that he didn't adhere to. There is a difference.

he should be applauded for scoring. consentual sex is not shameful. he is a leader, he should be proud and whip it out in the senate loudly proclaming his dominance saying, "america is the fertile field that i plow with this".
