From the story: New Delhi alternative act Them Clones have finally released their debut album Love. Hate. Heroes. Once described by the Groovebox as the Chinese Democracy of Indian rock, the album is a joint release by Counter Culture Records and EMI and is the band’s first full length studio release since the Clones came together in 2000. When the band released the first single ‘My Life’ (listen on the Indiecision music player) as a free download earlier this year, they asked fans to vote for tracks that would make it to the final album. From 17 tracks, 11 were chosen based on the votes. The CD release comes with a blank disc that listeners can use to make a copy (”clone”) for their friends...
Mike's comments: Hahaha other publications are finally starting to catch on to the idea that I created which is that including a song or video by indie artists when you write a story on them does a lot for both the band and readers. I get soooo tired of wannabe indie reviewers who try to use the 80-90's style of writing reviews that might have appeared in publications like Teen Beat when they review indie acts. Like; "OMG (unknown band) really tore the stage up last night when they played (unknown venue). (name of unknown lead singer) was totally dope with his rendition of (unknown song) while (unknown lead guitarist who used to play with another unknown band) was totally shredding on guitar.
See what I mean? Writing like that is fine for nationally known acts but when you apply it to indie artists it is like trying to explain quantum physics to your average person. Yeah, I get the idea but I so don't want to hear the details...
I think that if you just add a song (or especially a video) by the band you are writing about you give the audience the chance to make up their own minds on the song. Oh well, works for me anyway...
Also notice this band is giving away a blank CD with their new EP? hehehehe "Please pirate our music!!!" Well, there's a change isn't it?
