Microorganism keeps fruits fresher for longer

Millions of fruits seem to go to waste every year, say the US Department of Agriculture. So to tackle this issue microbiologist, George Pierce, is using a naturally occuring microorganism, to keep fruits fresher for longer.

The microorganism is prompted to promote enzymes that will lengthen the ripening of the fruits. This is achieved by manipulating the organis's diet. Flowers and vegetables can also be maintained for longer periods of time........
