'Belle Woman Dae Suffer' Music Video

Bellé Woman, dae suffer (Pregnant women are suffering), a song on maternal mortality in Sierra Leone.

Written and performed by four Sierra Leonean musicians and the Nigerian actress Omotola, the song highlights some of the issues surrounding the high maternal mortality rate in Sierra Leone. The song was performed during the campaign launch and caravan to reduce maternal mortality in Sierra Leone.

The caravan travelled around Sierra Leone from 22 September to 4 October to raise awareness around the importance of the right to maternal health. Events were organized which brought about 20,000 people into contact with Amnesty Internationals messages on maternal health. In addition over 80,000 people worldwide signed a petition urging the President to make maternal health a priority by allocating 15% of the national budget to healthcare and ensuring that health care workers are adequately paid, among other things. These were presented to the Presidents office on 13 November.
