Air France
My heart goes out to the families of the victim of the devastating air france disaster. I am sad, confused and angry. This just doesn't make sense. Modern airliners don't just fall out of the sky. These marvels of engineering are DESIGNED to handle turbulence; they are DESIGNED to withstand lighting, they have radars and electronics with TRIPLE redundancy (and more). The flying public is flooded with reassurances on the safety of flying, the reliability of airplanes. Its more dangerous just driving to the airport, we are told. And yet when something like this happens, all our consolations fall by the wayside. I am terrified. I want to understand. This plane was barely 5 years old. It has fly-by-wire: this means computers will not let the plane maneuver outside its airworthiness design limits. Envelope protection they call it. This is an exquisite machine. What the hell happened?
