    • this was too funny. seriously, my boyfriend gets a call from his mom every week about tivo questions, so when this came on, we were laughing from beginning to end. I don't think she has a thing for jeff goldblum, though.

    • My Mom passed away 6 years ago but she was totally like that lady. She always had to get a neighborhood kid to hook up or fix the vcr and later the dvd player to TV. We were one of the first families in town to get cable and a vcr but mom never figured them out. She could shove in a tape or dvd but couldn't figure out when there were any problems. She never recorded shows on video because she could never figure out the vcr. She did have a computer but was just starting to figure it out when she died. She had an email account and was just starting to learn. My Dad is 71 and he doesn't understand any of it. He does not have a computer and only got a cell phone 2 years ago. I could email him stuff he would find useful but he won't get a computer. He does have direct tv but he doesn't use the dvr because he can't figure it out. He never set up favorites or uses any of the extra features. He just keeps a notepad by his recliner of his channels and then just punches them in. He lives in a small town in the country and doesn't want to bother with all that new fangled nonsense as he puts it. He won an mp3 player in a church raffle last year but never downloaded songs because he didn't know how to do it.

By the way, which providers make you use TIVO? I never got it because all my former and current providers always had a dvr included with service. Is TIVO compatible with cable providers that include dvr's with their cable boxes? Every cable provider I have ever had came with its own dvr. TIVO probably is superior but if a dvr is already included with basic cable why would I want to buy a TIVO and then pay for the TIVO service? I had Time warner and it came with a dvr and now I'm with AT&T and it has a dvr too where I can watch the recorded shows in any room. Time warner never let me do that. They are all dvr boxes. sweet!

    • Tivo is better than all other DVRs. It's intuitive, friendly and makes pleasant sounds when you forward and rewind. They really need to figure out that business model, though, so they stay in operation. Also, they need to make a deal with DirecTV and all the cable companies. The DirecTivo was the best thing ever.

    • In the UK, TiVo wasn't a success story and it was (well...) short-lived, today in the UK the DVRs are proving popular thanks to sales of Sky+ boxes (and V+ HD boxes for Virgin Media customers).

Also, my Mum wouldn't even work out how to use DVR equipment either.
