Ya gotta love the title of this piece in the Pharmaceutical Daily Journal (that’s the Wall Street Journal) titled, “Adding Predictability to Benefits.” That’s a real fuzzy way of saying ‘We are going to do our bloody best to make sure you don’t stop consuming our lucrative products.’ The Pharmacy-benefit manager Express Scripts Inc., just one of the many players in the medical-pharmaceutical cartel, wants to help keep you on drugs so that, as the story says, it can help to “prevent health problems.”
Pharmacy-benefit manager Express Scripts Inc. is unveiling a new program that aims to contact people who fail to take their prescription drugs—before they actually stop.
The company Monday will announce an initiative intended to predict in advance who’s most likely to discontinue a medication regimen, and keep those people on their drugs with interventions such as letters or phone calls. This is an effort to encourage compliance and offer help such as mail-order prescriptions.
This is a “predictive” initiative aimed at “intervening” when it is anticipated that certain people may stop taking the legalized dope.
Insurers have long crunched medical-claims data to figure out who’s most likely to generate high costs over a relatively a short time frame, and target them for special case management.
Here’s the explanation for this intervention in the lives of those who would dare to not take the drugs they are ordered to take.
“It’s much easier to train you to do the right behavior than breaking you of the bad behavior,” said Steven Miller, chief medical officer of Express Scripts, which said it can save clients’ money by only targeting the highest-risk people for intervention.
Note the brazen use of the words “train” and “breaking you.” Once again, the people who want to control you usually don’t shy away from making that clear. Taking drugs that are highly profitable for the medical-pharmaceutical cartel is the “right thing”; making the decision to stop or deny a prescription recommendation is the “wrong thing.” Somehow, the mainstream continues to ignore the fact that the drug pushers in the corporatist pharmaceutical state, who make billions by pushing their patented, omnipotent dope on the conditioned masses, kill far more people than those folks who sell illicit drugs.

Why are you only showing the maybe .1% of people who may sell their methadone? Why don't you show patients with sucess stories? Methadone saves lives and here you cops are demonizing it again..I thought it was only in the US, but I guess the mentality is no better in Canada..You are hurting methadone patients more than you know. Why don't you even attempt to speak to patients who have many years off the dope? Your series reminds me of the reporter who did Methadonia on HBO a few years back..BTW, he apologised for his one sided reporting..Some people can admit their mistakes, but I know cops and cops hate methadone treatment and cops hate methadone patients...Get a clue and tell the real story

the methadone trade is only made possible by failing in distribution to addicts and in delivering it to the needy . but we can never completely get rid of it ! i live in the netherlands and i've been in the program for years . here it is relatively easy for addicts to get it and even to sell it if you want to. but the trade here is marginal at best . why ? the stopped with fluid meth and switched to pills ! that stopped 99 % of the trading ! and the put large amounts of sugar in the meth to make it hard to shoot it up. so it comes down to who and how it is regulated and given to addicts.
the u.s should look past it's own borders and see what works . stop harassing users ! - 1 year ago

I think this is sickening and I hope that they are all investigated and kicked off any methadone programs in the future. PLUS the doctor's who are giving this to people should be investigated also. this just makes it harder for people who are using for the correct purposes look bad. It has helped alot of real addict's change their lives for the better. BUT, then again we never hear any of those stories EVER???

Congratulations, this whole initiative is brilliant!! I see Will Wright's genius spreading into other realms of creation, and thanks to that we can now experience a mix of entertainment, online social networking (as a game), and a broader (alternate reality) game, all in name of collectively expanding, deepening, and leveraging the soul of this powerful and (only partially) well known mass entertainment tool called TV!

it is the politics who are not willing to give these people a better life . drug users are not a "hot " topic unless it is opression and the war on drugs . drug users are not citizens , heck , they arent even human in the publics eye ! so who care's what happens to the dopeheads ?
that's the way most people look at users . until that changes, nothing will happen to improve the way users live. - 1 year ago

If you are telling the truth, then why are you sitting on a high horse judging addicts just like you claim to be?? If you got clean congradulations, but you are no better than any other addict just because you may not be using anymore. BTW, you should realize that addiction is a diease, and since you claim to suffer from it, you may get loaded tomorrow,,It is the one diease that tells me I am not sick..I happen to use Methadone Maintenance as my recovery and my life is together..I think you are full of it..

Also maybe you should be aware that many homeless people are mentally ill..Your comments on how the homeless should take a bath, etc shows me you forgot where it is you came from..I also hate it when people brag about their life on the streets..Addiction isn;t a contest to see who used more, who hitchiked more, your stories don't impress me..Your lack of compassion makes me sad for you..Hopefully if you ever have children they aren't addicts because I would hate to have a parent who is so apathetic as you are..

Your post just shows people how you think you are better than other dope fiends. I don't care how much you give away, what kind of drugs you used, but when you go around insulting a whole group of people just because they happen to be homeless/addicts/ mentally ill, then you are showing us what kind of a person you are..You don't need to insult anyone..These people didn't grow up saying "I want to be a homeless drug addict when I grow up" You sound like you are preaching the 12 steps..There is nothing wrong with 12 steps, but in my experience ( I was in a 12 step program for years) they tend to put down anyone who doesn't agree with the abstinance way of life...I really don't care how or why you stopped using, but I will stand up for anyone who suffers from this diease and anytime you insult, put down or judge an addict, I will be right here telling you how full of shit you are...

I hear you friend,,It really puzzles me how a person who claims they are an addict can have such contempt for addicts who are still suffering,,Maybe this person sees these people and see himself/herself in the mirror...Usually when we hate a certain group of people we see the part of ourselves that terrifies us...The only time I have ever looked down on a fellow addict is when I am helping them up..This Bailey person claims to be an addict but seems to be repulsed by other addicts..Addicts who are like Bailey are the ones who usually start using drugs again because he/she 4 got how bad it is on the streets,,I was taught to never 4 get my last fix, and I never will July 1 2002..That was the day I saw my best friend in a casket and I knew that is what was waiting for me..I don't believe in the so called 12 step bottoms, I hit dozens of bottoms, my bottom is death, Methadone saved my life, yes its a pain in the ass having to go once a week, but better that then mutilating my body anymore,,Hell, I am too old for this shit..I used from 14 years old until 46 years old and I am shocked as hell that I made it..Methadone isn't substituting one drug 4 another, because I don't believe that abstinance BS...Its like when I watch Celebraty rehab, and one person had been in 9 12 step rehabs..If thats the case, I think it is time to try something different.. Sorry for rambling but I am very passionate in my beliefs of harm reduction..before methadone, I tried to commit suicide several times,,,I had PAWS
Post Acute Withdrawl syndrome for 12 years..I was diagnoised with clinical depression, bi polar, ADHD,PTSS agorophobia, and all it was was PAWS, I suffered because I listened to a cult program that you don't use no matter what, and that almost killed me...I can't live without an opiate in my body, and that is not a failure, it is my sucess...I lived because I listened to my body (finally after years) and not the cult...Pat

and the blah ,blah thing is just childish and stupid . i never met any addict who is clean who didnt think he/she is'nt still an addict . even though they dont use anymore .
most agree that you will be an addict until you die .
you would have to agree that niether you or i know everything about other addicts people are different . i did get clean after 25 years of drug use . i went into the heroin program and got my dope from the governement . i was homeless for more then 5 years . my body is shot to hell . my life is fucked up and i can never work again . no one would judge me that know me and know my story . and i dont give away everything i own. because i dont own shit ! but i help people where i can and be a better person then i was when i was young . i also spent 9 years in prison for murder 1 . and still i made it out ! most of my family is speaking to me again and are proud of me !
for most addict it's quite simpel in the end ; you get sick of using and stop. or you die .
there is no middle way in my experience.

i get the feeling that you are feeling very sorry for yourself and what you went through .
i feel sorry for what i put others through . i have been raped, cut ,shot ,abducted and a whole lot more . even i dont think i am something special. a lot of guy's in the states have been through the same shit . i had money, girls ,cars and all the crap that goes with crime life . i started using at 12 /13 . then stopped and went to soft drugs for a while . also very standard. i just want to let you know that based on what you said, you had it easy .

Hi Richard..PAWS is post acute withdrawl syndrom..Believe me, since I found out that is what I have, I quit taking antidepressents, sleeping pills, and my panic attacks have almost disapeared..On a daily basis all I have to take is my thyroid medication, methadone, and my asthma inhaler if needed..I got to quit taking all of the poison they were giving me and with just the methadone, I feel normal for the first time in 30+ years...I may take a xanax but only if I am having a panic attack that I can't talk myself out of, because I know how mixing the 2 medications are dangerous...I was diagnoised with adult ADHD and they gave me Vyvanse, well, after taking the first dose, I was done..I don't want that crap anymore..Do you believe I was acually diagnoised with agorophobia in 1978? The doctors here had never heard of panic disorder, so they told me I was afraid to leave my home and gave me nutter drugs..I knew I wasn't scared to leave my house, and when many years later I found out what panic attacks were, I knew that is what I have,,Luckily when I quit using heroin and other opiates plus whatever else was around, I found the panic attacks were managable and I was more than happy to throw the pills down...

You claim that you have been a drug addict yet you know nothing about the diease of addiction..You are writing like you think that people that are homeless have an easy way out..I am lucky to have never been homeless, but many of my friends have been, and once a person is out on the street, it is a hard road back..When were you homeless, when you were 13?? If indeed you ever were homeless you would know how hard it is to get a job, get a place to live, in the states its close to impossible to even get general relief money because a homeless person has no address..I had a boy friend who lost his home and he lived in his car for months, he would get a job, but when they found out he had to live in his car, they would fire him for not being responsible..You have no idea what people who are down on their luck go through, but even if you did, I don;t think you would even care..Addiction is a frigging diease, you can;t will yourself to as you say get better..BTW how did you get clean? I tried to quit for years,,It had nothing to do with "bettering myself" I quit the dope and got on methadone because I was too old and too tired to run the streets anymore, plus I know that I don;t have a bottom, My bottom would be death, and I just didn't want to die at 46 years old, so for me the choice was easy, Methadone or death..If you think that people on methadone are using drugs then you are no better than the right wing republicans who have the slogan "Just say no" Addicts don't belong in prison, and I know this will upset you, but we are now covered under the Americans with Disability act....That is so people like you can't treat us as second class citizens..

So you are pussy whipped too..Why don't you leave this subject alone because you are only here to harrass people. Methadone has nothing to do with you, so why are you so intreged by it? BTW, I don't fly kites..Why don;t you go play on a freeway blindfolded? U can't win here loser, so if you want to continue this you better know what you are talking about through experience. not by reading it in a book, any idiot can do that, but you can't argue what you don't understand

Once again, the people who want to control you usually don’t shy away from making that clear.
