Akira and The Crow should have at least had honorable mention. And they could have done without Spiderman 2, which was an honest attempt at a good idea but ended up being very forced and corny. But had its moments. I mean, X-men was a stronger contender.
I also felt that Road to Perdition should have been brought up, but no one seems to like that film except for me, my brother, and my father.
I am glad however that Watchmen wasn't mentioned. Despite how much I like Zach Snyder, I don't appreciate his rendition of that particular story. 300 I didn't mind, his additions were mostly good. But he really tried to turn Watchmen into a kind of story that it wasn't. Same goes for A History of Violence and From Hell. - 1 year ago

Where is Southland Tales?
Yes, I know many will say its obscure and maybe for others a bad movie but I personally find it to be underrated.

Very underrated. But most people don't have the attention span to watch that movie. The main reason being it needs multiple viewings before you can fully understand it.

1) Blade
2) Blade 2
3) Blade 3
4) Battle Royal
5) Sin CityDark Knight should have been named The Joker.
And if you are going to use Ghost World, then you need to look at other GRAPHIC NOVELS which have been turned into movies as well. When you say COMIC, the general thought is of American Superheros. - 1 year ago

Instead of this list being called "Top 5 comic book movies" it should be "Top 5 comic book movies that suck the least, kind of"
Also comic book based movies will suck 99.999998% of the time because the directors don't have any respect for the original comicbook story and take too many liberties when makng it into a movie.'Nuff Said

This is a ridiculously broad category if Ghost World can take #1. It should be limited to superhero films, otherwise it makes as much sense as profiling book adaptations [the kind with no pictures] like they all have something in common... apart from being books originally. It's still a valid point!

Brett, I would love to be polite here, but I can't. You have enraged the inner geek in me. "Ghost World" at #1? That movie was crap. It's a critical darling because critics all secretly identify with the misbegotten and derisive, and they went gaga for an indie film with indie-darlings starring in it. The ending made no sense (yes, I have thought about it, and the more you think about it, the more you realize it makes no sense), and the movie was boring and pointless. Next.
Two-Face was one of the BEST parts about "The Dark Knight"! You're a crack-monkey! From a script standpoint, he is both the perfect counterpoint to both Batman and Bruce Wayne, and also to the Joker! Everything was balanced to play off each other so perfectly...it's what sets the interplay between Batman and the Joker apart from the Keaton/Nicholson film. Batman won the battle for the city, but Joker won the battle for Dent's soul, and took a piece of Bruce with him. That last "45 meandering minutes" (MUCH better than an entire meandering 110 minutes of "Ghost World"!!!) are essential to completing the character arcs. Sorry if it was more cerebral than you wanted for a summer action movie.
"Oldboy" is great, but not THAT great. The end was completely unnecessary and turned me off. It was overdone for dramatic effect, much like a lot of Asian film. And eating live octopus isn't that uncommon in Asia. I'VE done it. (Okay, not like that.) Bump it down to #8 or so.
Spiderman 2? Great movie. The lighter tone turned off a lot of people (like the other commenters here), but not EVERY great film has to be dark and serious all the time. I know you guys are desperate for comics to be taken seriously, but without the success of films like Spiderman 2, films like Iron Man never would've been made. That said, Iron Man is a better movie. It just is. Bump it.
So what are we missing? I think the X series is the elephant in the room. There's a reason they're so damn popular, and a reason Bryan Singer got huge after them. Which one's best? I think you can narrow it to the first two, and then it may go to personal preference. Some stellar performances in each, very faithful writing, good action, but they have something to say. I may have to give the edge to "X-Men 2" because although it does become a bit too much of 'The Wolverine Story', it still has a lot of character development, but amps up the action scenes, and there are so many details thrown in for the fans.
Other deserving flicks that could be shoed in at #5, depending on personal preference:
Sin City- perhaps the most perfectly realized comic adaptation ever
The Crow- a true classic, but starting to get a bit dated
Road to Perdition- so good and natural I bet you didn't even know it was a graphic novel, huh?
and yeah, Batman Begins- criminally under-rated at the time. Now, Brett, go back to comic geek school, son. You done offended the masses.

I just gotta say, I loved the 'Sin City' graphic novels, but hated the movie. It was just too ff the mark for me.
Why does everyone hate Watchmen? I thought all things considered it was really well done.
You also forgot From Hell, which was abso-frickin-lutely amazing, imo. ANYthing that Alan Moore creates is a masterpiece, and that was no different.
CONSTANTINE!! I loved that film, and it hit the mark by staying true to the comic. imho.So now, why can't we have some of Grant Morrison's work on the big screen? Doom Patrol, Kid Eternity, The Invisibles (OMG what a movie that would make), and the list goes on and on - these are gold.

Alicynx, I have to say, I have no idea what you think constitutes "true to the comic" versus "off the mark".
On one hand, you have Sin City, which is literally, panel for panel, shot for shot, an exact adaptation of 3 of the books. The creator of the comic was even co-director.
Then you have Constantine, in which your blonde Brit in London is replaced by a black-haired American in New York. That's just the tip of the iceberg, but basically it's VASTLY different from the comics.Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both films, but the former is well-known for its faithfullness, whereas the latter is well-known for being yet ANOTHER Moore adaptation that strays far from the original. (From Hell, Swamp Thing, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen being some others.)
As far as Morrison... a lot of his comic work is too inaccessible for even comic readers. Good luck making that transition to a movie audience.
Oh, and Watchmen....nice effort, but very uneven. Jesus, if they just fixed the horrible use of music in the film, maybe I could get onboard, but that alone kills it. - 1 year ago

Spiderman 1 could have made the list had they not completely fucked up the ending. They should have introduced Gwen Stacy as Peter's original love instead of jumping straight to Mary Jane. That way, when the Green Goblin presents him with the choice of saving his love or the tram full of children from falling to their deaths, he would actually have to make a CHOICE of the greater good through personal loss. Its closer to the original source material (GG killed GS by throwing her off the Brooklyn Bridge) and really teaches Peter (and the audience) the meaning of great power and responsibility. End the movie with him weeping over the graves of his two father figures AND his first true love, now THAT'S how to start a good super hero franchise (especially for Spiderman).

I see some really offending comments here. @ Carlos_Gutierrez you don't know what you are talking about. First off, Spider-man 2 wasn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be. True, it is overrated and it didn't hold up well, but it's not bad by any means. Second, they aren't trying to be judge and jury, this is all sort of a joke and if you don't get, that's your problem. I mean, look at their other top 5s, they got some really fun and interesting ones like "Top 5 Bitches in movies"or "Top 5 space ships in movies".
Still, I somewhat disagree with the list. I do believe, that to some extent ghost World deserves to be here, but definitely not on number 1. And to put Iron Man here, I dunno, it was a fun movie, but still... Besides, It's hard to make such a list, I mean with only 5 movies they are leaving out so many great ones - the original Batman, Akira, History of Violence, Sin City, The Crow, X2 and so many more

In no specific order, my top five would be Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Crow & Spiderman. Honorable mention: Sin City, 300, Kick Ass, Superman, Superman II, Spiderman 2. Notice that none of the X-Men movies or FF movies are listed. If making a list of how NOT to make comic book movies see X-Men 2 or 3, FF 1 or 2 any of the batman movies of the 90s (1st was ok because of Keaton) and Spiderman 3.

Well, this is one of the most moronic lists ever. It does contain worthy mentions, but the arguments are ridiculous. Especially when you have a piece of crap like spider man two in any list that doesn't have "worst" in the title. But it's funny. Critics, who praise themselves as being the judge and jury on a movie's effectiveness realized too late that the spider man franchise in entirety was garbage. To the point it's being remade. It took " The Dark Knight" and Iron Man to mature the way they saw comic book films, instead or giving thumbs up to any crappy flick with a bad costume and CGI because they thought it was kid's stuff. And aside from Christian's Bale weird voice film, The Dark Knight actually made something of the character two face, which is pretty hard to do.
And Ghost World, the #1 comic book movie? Well, proved my point. You shouldn't be making any more lists.

Akira
Sin City
Battle Royalealthough Iron Man, Oldboy, and the Dark Knight deserves to be on there, but Spider Man 2 was overrated to hell when it came out and hasn't held up well at all

Battle Royale was a novel, then a movie, THEN a manga. So yeah, doesn't count seeing as the manga is more an adaptation of the other two.
