New Way To Get On The Rotten Tomatoes Show

Brett_Erlich
If you tuned in for Thursday's show, then you've probably noticed that we've been shaking things up around here. We want to make sure The Rotten Tomatoes Show stays as useful to you guys as possible, so we're getting ahead of the new release schedule!

Of course, then we realized that not all of our users can always see movies ahead of release, which just doesn't work for us. We want to keep Current viewers in the show with us each week, so we put our brains together and came up with some new ways to get your input.

Need an example? Check out this week's Get on TV opportunity: let us know which rapper you think has given the best performance in a movie -

http://current.com/shows/the-rotten-tomatoes-show/92419244_get-on-tv-the-best-ra...

Record a 10-30 second webcam of yourself. Get on the show! It's still that simple. Viewers from last week's call for the Worst Comic Book movie are already in the show.

Watch The Rotten Tomatoes Show to see if you've made it, see some new movies this weekend, and then come back and let us know what you think in the show comments. We still want to know that too.

    • Nobody cares what critics think, I'd rather hear what normal people think a week later than a bunch of lame critics a week earlier. Show sucks now, and Ellen Fox is annoying as all hell.

    • The rotten tomatoes show used to be great, but has taken a sharp turn for the rotten. It used to give edgy and smart criticism of movies, and included both mainstream and non-mainstream movies. It also included smart reviews from audience members. In the last couple of months, the reviews from the audience have been eliminated as well as the edgy film criticism and the non-mainstream movies. Basically, everything that made this show special has been chopped out. Now, it's just another movie review show with the same boring garbage as all the other shows. What Current has done to this show is just rotten. Bring the old version back.

    • Brett and Ellen, I've got to tell you, I'm REALLY not feeling the new review format. I know it was probably a lot of work to review user submissions and incorporate them, but I loved it. I DON'T MIND AT ALL WAITING UNTIL AFTER THE MOVIE'S OUT TO SEE YOUR REVIEW!
There are few movie critics I trust to regularly get it right. Ebert & Roeper struck a good balance and I could always rely on them, but since the demise of the show, you guys are the only ones I could count on. The new critics are doing nothing for me, I don't often agree with them, don't see their point, and don't think they're entertaining. Can you PLEASE go back to you guys anchoring user comments? Or even just you two. Drop the other critics! I miss my reliable 'buying guide' for the movie theater.

    • I have to say I miss the old format too. The viewer reviews didn't just say the same thing as every other professional or published review and then when edited together there would be a humor and point of view unlike anything else out there. It wasn't elitist, it wasn't over produced it was real and relevant. And isn't that the core of Current?
But, if you are going to stick to the new format at least change the backdrop when you are reviewing. I'm sure there’s a VIRAL VIDEO FILM SCHOOL that would make some great suggestions.

    • This show is only useful to me if it is funny though... Let me be perfectly clear, I have zero intention of seeing the majority of the movies that come out in theaters. I watched the show because it was funny... that's it, that's the one and only reason. If I see that the show gave a really great review and it is a movie that I had interest in seeing, then I'll go see it. I'm not sure who thinks that the viewers are sitting at the edge of their seats every Thursday night and then going to see the reviewed movies immediately the next day! Not me! I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter to anyone if they see a movie the day of its release, so it's unfortunate that this was apparently the reason for the change. Just having the webcam viewers answer some generic question at the end of the show about the best/worst rapper actor or worst comic book movie isn't enough to get me to tune in.
And what a shame! I've been looking forward to tuning in to see the inevitably awful review of Letters to Juliet for a little while now, but sadly that will never be I guess ;)
Of course Brett and Ellen will always be great on the show, but the fact that I never really cared what movie critics say in the first place, combined with the fact that they aren't funny means I won't be watching the show anymore... :(

    • Please return to the previous format. My boyfriend I loved your show and would watch every episode. However the new format is so awful that we will probably stop watching. Everything I feel was right about the old format has already been stated by others: the real viewers opinions mixed in with comdians and critics, the creative license allowed by people doing their own video such as making fun of shaky camera work, the produced parts feeling fresh after a palate cleansing pate of amatuer critique(and vice versa). In addition the new format some how ruins anything that was once good a good example is how another fan stated that they somehow made the msnbc guy, who is usually hillarious, unbearably boring. The reality is, for my two person demographic we almost never see movies in theaters because we simply can't afford it, something I'm sure a large percentage of the American demographic has in common these days. As a result, we use the show to help us decide what movies to put in our netflix queue and, about once a quarter, which movie to see in theaters. I have never commented about a tv show before but I feel passionate that this show had gotten something right and instead decided to turn itself into schlock. It is only because of Currents philosophy of being user driven that I would even attempt persuasion. The sad truth is after the last episode my boyfriend and I seriously contemplated not recording any further episodes but decided to keep it in the dvr list only because we thought it was a temporary change because of iron man 2 or something. The new format really holds nothing for us and will probably soon stop watching out of disinterest.

    • I'm not a big fan of the new Rotten Tomatoes format. I didn't mind waiting a week to see reviews of new movies, but now the webcams are only seen for about a minute.

My idea is each week have one movie reviewed by a mix of critics, comedians, and viewers just like the old format. That way you review movies before they come out and viewers can still participate in the show.

    • Come on man! The new format is BULLSHIT and you guys both know it. Know why I watch RT? Because it is FUNNY! I also watch "At the Movies" for a completely different reason. I watch RT for the same reason I watch InfoMania and VVFS; because you guys are hilarious. I don't watch them because I want NEW information. I have seen all the articles in we got ya covered, I have seen almost all the videos on VVFS, I have seen all the clips on Soup, I know all the news on "The Daily Show". Hopefully you and the producers are starting to catch on to what I am saying. (Strike that. I KNOW you get it. I KNOW Ellen gets it. I HOPE the producers [i.e. SUITS] get it.)

      CHANGE IT BACK!!!!

      Grits teeth... readies torches...

      WHO's with me?!!?!?!?!?!

    • fox, erlich -- i will assume that you weren't behind this. because i love you. maybe fox more than erlich, but that's largely biological happenstance. you're wonderful people.

i agree with the other (--why is there only one other post on this?!--) post. WTF. now, it's true, i never did a weekend review. despite many "maybe this weekend" fantasies. the thing is, i'm drunk right now, and being drunk i thought i would log in and record a review of iron man 2.

maybe it's people like me that wore down your editorial patience. who knows what the current.com archive holds. many, many incomprehensible things, i'm sure.

but, good god, rotten tomatoes.... really? you're happy with the new format?

      are you really?

      that hurts.

as usual, it was a great show. but i am genuinely less excited about telling people to watch you.
