There was this one scene in the Russell Crowe movie: " Master
and Commander, the Far Side of the Earth " in which he, as the
Captain of a British Navy warship was seated at the head of his
table. Seated around him were his EX O, and all his junior officers,
as was the custom, and a Botanist. It was also the custom for the
Crown to send botanists on vital missions to obtain breadfruit, or
in this case, to catalog the flora & fauna living on islands they'd
explore in their travels. They were at war with France, and always
on the lookout to be attacked by French frigates and defend themselves.

The constant stressful situation was monotonous, and had emotionally
drained the crew beyond what was healthy. So to diffuse their anxiety,
and restore their health needed to keep them vigilant, the Captain was
passing around the Madera bottle. They all had been liberally drinking
the wine, talking loosely, in between eating when the Captain noticed
the Botanist was still sober. In a an idle, mischievous mood, the Captain
looked around until he saw 2 bugs on a plate of biscuits, and then he
got the idea. He asked the Botanist which of the 2 bugs was the smaller ?
Irked at such a frivolous question, he was at first taken aback, then
answered he didn't know. The Captain pressed him for an answer.
So he arbitrarily pointed to one bug and said: " That one, I suppose "
The Botanist emotionally asked him why he asked him such a ridiculous
question. The Captain, seeing he had the attention of all his officers
responded: " Well lads, as you know, the British Admiralty demands
that it's officers always exercise sound judgement. And for that, we're
all required to choose between the lesser of 2 Weevils " They all laugh
heartily, as the Captain passes around the wine bottle. The Botanist
smirks realizing, in good sport, as a guest of the Navy, he's been initiated.
THAT has to be the # 6 top Russell Crowe line of all time. So far.

    • Haha, he's a New Zealander, pretending to be an Australian, pretending to be an American.
...sort of like the spoof of him by Downey Jnr in Tropic Thunder.

I prefer his earlier Aussie films because he wasn't playing a dick all the time.

    • He should hang up his gladiator sandals and hand in his badge...his persona character is similar throughout. Getting a bit played out already.
