Welcome to ‘The War Room.’ Here are the stories we are following this Tuesday, March 27th, 2012:
Looking for a roundup of opinion on health care reform? Pew has a page of polls, including their own, that show how America is feeling about the legislation. Pew, Kaiser and Gallup/USA Today show slight approval, AP/GfK, Washington Post/ABC, New York Times/CBS show disapproval. Quick takeaway: It all comes down to how the questions are worded. Americans approve of the individual aspects of health care reform, but they don’t like the mandate. How do you feel? Let us know in the comments section.
A study by the Urban Institute finds that only 2 percent of Americans will be affected by the individual mandate.
A new National Journal poll shows that while the individual mandate is unpopular, the Ryan plan to privatize Medicare isn’t going to fly with the American people either. Sixty four percent said that “Medicare should continue as it is today, with the government … paying doctors and hospitals directly for the services they provide to seniors,” and only 26 percent favored some sort of voucher system.
Karl Rove’s Fight Club. Politico has a revealing story today on the power broker billionaires that call all the shots for the modern Republican Party – but can these self-appointed Masters of the Universe get along with each other?
Time for another episode of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Wannabe Presidents.” Today, we visit Mitt Romney at his lovely vacation home in California, where even the cars have their own elevators! Yes, folks, you too can buy lobbyists to influence your local officials to bypass your local ordinances to put in “water features” that no one has to know the details about. Ah, the good life that comes from buying companies and selling out the workers for a hefty profit.
Would you pay $50 to have your photo taken with Newt Gingrich? You would be surprised at how many people will. Gingrich has lost the last of his embedded reporters, so we may need those shots to start keeping track of him.
The economy sucks and it’s all Obama’s fault! No, wait, the economy is great, and we can thank the House Republicans and John Boehner! That will be the new talking point should some in the House Republican Obfuscation Caucus get their way. Just another symptom of the disease in a party that has a moral crisis that they really need to address, the sooner the better.
Trayvon Martin’s parents are in DC today to attend a racial profiling hearing organized by Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee. Meanwhile, Think Progress is tracking the smear campaign against Trayvon being run by those on the right. Keep an eye on that space for updates.
And here’s some extra footage of Elizabeth Warren from “The Road We’ve Traveled.” Enjoy.
