Tonight, Jennifer Granholm took the stage at the Democratic National Convention to talk about one thing: jobs.
In 2008, Michigan was heading over a cliff. The U.S. auto industry had collapsed, and then-Governor Jennifer Granholm was literally begging for help. Two responses have stuck with her to this day.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said: “Let Detroit go bankrupt.”
President Barack Obama said: “We are with you.”
Tonight, Jennifer Granholm recounted her experience at the center of the auto industry collapse in Michigan, where she had to look into the eyes of thousands of factory workers whose livelihoods had been stripped away by the outsourcing of jobs overseas. She testified, as only she can, to the success of President Obama’s auto bailout and the importance of the American worker.
