Me, myself and I vs. We, the people

One of the prime-time speakers at next week’s Democratic National Convention will tell you what President Obama needs to say to the American people. Here’s a hint who it is: her name starts with Jennifer and ends with Granholm.

After three days of heroic and hyper individualistic rhetoric from the GOP, it’s clear that Republicans look at the destination of their dreams, lined with gold and encrusted with diamonds, and neglect the journey. The Democratic Party needs to remind Americans that it’s only through the journey that we’ve been able to collectively realize our dreams. As we all move through our lives, we reach peaks where we celebrate the feats of individuals, then we wade through waters, shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbors; it’s the meaning of community.

So after an intense week of rugged individualistic messaging, which was perhaps best embodied by surprise speaker Clint Eastwood, Jennifer Granholm looks forward to next week’s Democratic National Convention and what needs to be done to rally people everywhere.

Watch “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm”  at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and weeknights at a new time 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT starting September 10.
