Obama endorses marriage for all

We were in our morning meeting today planning the show when ABC announced that Obama would be on with Robin Roberts later in the day talking about gay marriage. There were as many opinions in the room about what stance Obama would take as there were people, so when the announcement came we were all paying rapt attention. Want a little behind the scenes? That’s us in the picture above, glued to the TV set. We look serious because we’re watching history being made.

And here’s what the history books will record: President Barack Obama said “it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Amazing, right? Here we were, waiting for the President to evolve… and then we got to see it happen. When asked for comment for the blog, Jennifer Granholm said, “it’s fantastic!” (The comment was short because she was sprinting down the hall to write her opinion for the show).

We’re pulling together a great show for you. We’ll cover Obama’s announcement and Romney’s parsing of what rights people who are partners should and shouldn’t have. We’ll cover how the left will respond from the perspective of those who are energized and those who might be alienated. We’ve got an ardent conservative’s opinion, and we’ll dig into how this will play throughout the election, especially in the swing states.

Tune in tonight at 9 EST for an in-depth look at today’s news from Jennifer Granholm, TV host and CA. Lt. Gov. Gavin NewsomFreedom to Marry‘s Sean Eldridge, pollster Mark Mellman, Christine Pelosi, conservative J.D. Hayworth and more. To quote Jennifer Granholm, it’s going to be fantastic.
