Actor Jeff Daniels, who plays newsman Will McAvoy on the HBO drama “The Newsroom,” discusses his new show, saying his character wants the country to move toward the middle, compromising instead of moving apart. On the inspiration for his character, Jennifer Granholm asks if the anchor is modeled after anyone in particular, and Daniels gives a resounding no. “Nobody. Nobody. Nobody came to me and said, “By the way, Keith Olbermann, take a look at him.’” Daniels says the show’s creator, Aaron Sorkin, spent time at many cable news networks in order to prep and research the show.
