Granholm and Van Houten say people don’t need assault weapons

Benjamin Van Houten joins Jennifer Granholm to discuss the situation with the weapons used in the Aurora, Colo., shooting. And neither can think of a reason for a civilian to have an assault weapon. “With these large-capacity magazines, the ability to not to have to reload means a shooter can get off significantly more shots. If the shooter had to reload, there’s a greater chance for law enforcement to intervene, for people to get out of the situation. So a large-capacity magazine really makes a great amount of difference,” Van Houten says.
