Homeless and undocumented: A story of hope

The number of homeless students has skyrocketed to 1 million. And during the 2010–11 school year, 44 states experienced an increase in homeless students.

The new documentary “Inocente” tells the story of Inocente Izucar, a homeless student. Izucar joined Jennifer Granholm in “The War Room” to talk about her journey. She was an undocumented, homeless child in San Diego from the age of 8, when her family crossed the border from Mexico, until she was 16. She lived in shelters and on the streets for years. So how did she survive what seems like overwhelming challenges?

“I just woke up every day with a positive outlook. Because every day is a new day,” Izucar says. “You can’t change the past, so you can only change the future and just never giving up hope.”
