Mark Takano: Issues more important to voters than LGBT status

Democratic congressional candidate Mark Takano says a lot has changed since he was outed during a run for office in 1994. “I was a candidate for Congress 20 years ago, and I was outed in 1994 in a fairly contentious race. I can tell you in those 20 years, things have changed tremendously,” Takano tells John Fugelsang on “The War Room.” “Now my LGBT status is a very minor point of interest,” Takano says, pointing out that people prefer to focus on issues of importance to their community and how elected officials will act on those issues. On Obama’s comments on marriage equality, Takano says, “I have always believed that our country was on a path to more and more equality. I believe the ideals on which our country was founded … have moved us forward. The country can’t help but be animated by generations who ask, ‘What does it mean to be an American?’”
