Democratic pollster John Whaley of Hart Research tells Jennifer Granholm that while voters were feeling hopeful in the spring, with job numbers up and good weather around the country, recent polls show they’ve downgraded their optimism for the summer. “This recession is just really hard to beat,” Whaley says, “people are pulling back on their expectations for the future.”
