While chatter about Chrysler’s “It’s Halftime America” ad percolated Monday, another Super Bowl ad – run locally in Michigan – was getting a different kind of response online. Jill Alper, a Democratic strategist in Michigan (and former adviser to Gov. Jennifer Granholm) discusses an ad from former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra that depicts a young Asian woman speaking in broken English criticizing Hoekstra’s opponent for “reckless spending.” Alper called the ad “over the top,” “distasteful,” and “off-message.”
