Why must Obama appoint new FEC commissioners? (Hint: It’s about money)

Melanie Sloan, executive director of nonpartisan watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, says she is concerned that the Federal Election Commission decision on CREW’s Crossroads GPS complaint could come after the election — after all the big-money influence has been wielded. “The FEC and the IRS have both been pathetic. Neither one of these agencies has done what they should be doing to keep our election free and fair,” Sloan says, explaining why the sitting FEC commissioners present a significant problem. The good news? It’s a problem Sloan says Obama has the power to solve.
