Cenk: ‘Bush and Obama both smoked pot, and how many millions of people do they have in jail for it?’
President Obama said he wouldn’t enforce federal laws prohibiting medical marijuana, but now Rolling Stone reports Obama has retained or reappointed Bush-era Department of Justice officials who, in fact, have gone after pot clinics at a faster rate. Cenk and Power Panelists John Fugelsang and Michael Shure have a decidedly un-chill fight over whether Obama has abandoned the majority of Americans who support a more liberal drug policy. “President Bush and President Obama both smoked pot, and how many millions of people do they have in jail for smoking pot?” Cenk says. “There is a political calculus to it,” Shure points out. “Cannabis has been in this country a lot longer than white people have been,” Fugelsang reminds us, and both Washington and Jefferson even grew it.
