Justice Department drone strike white paper makes the whole world a battlefield ‘as a way of sidestepping all framework of law’

Cenk Uygur talks to “Epic Politics Man” Michael Shure, Los Angeles Times reporter Ken Dilanian and University of Michigan Professor Juan Cole about NBC News revealing a leaked 16-page white paper breaking down how the Department of Justice deals with the legality of drone strikes. The white paper includes guidelines for the “targeted killing” of American citizens in foreign environments. “The problem is, the world is not a battlefield, and defining it as such is a way of sidestepping all framework of law,” Cole says. “It really is a lawless memo. … In the U.S. Constitution, these procedures are forbidden. This memo is unconstitutional, and the only way you get around the Constitution here is by saying the whole world is a battlefield.”
