Cenk talks to Calif. Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom — also a Current TV host — about the possible use of eminent domain to prevent foreclosure in areas such as San Bernardino, Calif., where 150,000 homeowners are underwater on their mortgages. But some Republicans in Congress are trying to block such measures before they’ve even started by threatening they would withhold funds for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. “This brings us back decades — to redline these districts, redline these areas by saying we’re not going to lend in communities that exercise their legal rights of eminent domain,” Newsom says. “I had to send a letter to Eric Holder to investigate the threats, the aggressive threats by the mortgage industry to threaten local government and to threaten homeowners and communities. … And it’s not getting the kind of attention that it deserves. And I want to say this, with respect, even from members of our own Democratic Party that I think need to take a much more aggressive stance on this.”
