How reporters lost track of holding politicians to the truth

DecodeDC.com founder Andrea Seabrook and Rolling Stone’s Michael Hastings join Cenk to call out journalists for clogging up the media with so-called news from both Republicans and Democrats, regardless of whether it’s truthful or relevant. “The idea behind that is, ‘This is what your government is doing America. You should pay attention to what your government’s doing. It’s important stuff,’” Seabrook says. “That works as long as there is something about that discussion that has any bearing on reality.” Hastings says, “We’re trying to keep up with the 24-hour news cycle, and that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on whatever source you have — to basically write down what they say, and then go to the source on the other side and write down exactly what they say. That’s not necessarily a recipe for Pulitzer Prize–winning journalism.”
