Matt Bowman, author of “The Mormon People,” answers a common question: Is Mormonism a cult? “When you leave the religion — like with the Church of Scientology and other cults — they come after you,” Cenk says. “Doesn’t that sound cultish?” Bowman says, “Here’s the difference: Scientology has an organized system they call ‘shunning,’ which is formal pressure put on people who leave the church. You don’t see that in Mormons.”
