At a time when most organizations are asking how they can help gay kids not get bullied or feel suicidal, the Boy Scouts of America doubled down and reaffirmed its ban on gay troop leaders and gay members. In contrast, the Girl Scouts of America has been an inclusive organization since its founding and welcomes both lesbian and transgender girls. “They are light-years ahead of the Boy Scouts,” journalist Michelangelo Signorile tells Cenk. “The Boy Scouts is going backwards. … Here you have this organization stuck in something like 20 years ago.” Without support from the Mormon and Catholic churches and other religious groups that sponsor almost two-thirds of troops, Signorile says, the BSA would be in even bigger trouble.
