Top 5 oil companies made $1 trillion in profits in last 10 years — so why do they get taxpayer subsidies?

The White House and Democrats have put forward a bill to stop subsidies to oil companies — which seems especially sensible given that from 2001 to 2011, the top five companies made $1 trillion in profits.

“Karl Rove and his cronies…love to give away taxpayer money to the richest people in the world — and this is a perfect example of it,” Cenk says.

It’s a good investment, too — for every one dollar spent lobbying, oil companies made about $30 worth of tax breaks.
