After pressure from ColorofChange.org and others, Coca-Cola and Pepsi both pulled out of ALEC — the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative organization that drafts business-friendly laws that are then fed to legislators. At the heart of ALEC’s work is the effort to require voter identification.
“They don’t want minorities to vote because they vote Democrat!” Cenk says, and if we don’t fight back, “Mission accomplished. Corporations win. They get more of their guys in, and of course those legislators are overwhelming Republican. They write their laws, some of which get us killed, some of which get us imprisoned.”
