‘West Wing’ actor Richard Schiff on #debates: ‘I think the president was taken off guard by the audacity of the lies’

Cenk asks actor/director Richard Schiff, best known for playing communications adviser Toby Ziegler on “The West Wing,” how he would have coached President Obama for a stronger performance in the first debate with Mitt Romney. “It’s so easy to pick a lie and stick to it,” Schiff says. “It’s much harder, if you have any semblance of wanting to tell the truth, to be able to look that in the eye and deal with it, because it makes your jaw drop. I think the president was taken off guard by the audacity of the lies, the repeated make-believe that Romney was throwing at him. It stuns you when it happens to you.” Schiff even compared the experience to an appearance he made on Fox News during the convention.
