White House backs a payroll tax compromise, even though they don’t know how they’re going to pay for it

To Jayar Jackson, it’s a mildly shocking compromise from Democrats and President Obama: “He’s been pushing this so much,” Jayar says. “He needs to deliver on this one thing. Americans understand this part. The Defense Authorization Act — people can say, I’m not going to get arrested, I’m not going end up in indefinite detention, because I’m a good guy. But I want my tax cut.”
