    • The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was a big sleeper hit in 2004, a time when games like Doom 3, Far Cry, and Half-Life 2 ruled the scene. Butcher Bay was praised for its creativity and visual performance that set the bar high for that year. The game received high marks, but was quickly forgotten because of the lack of multiplayer and because it was only released on the PC and Xbox.

Assault on Dark Athena aims to continue the story of Butcher Bay as well as bring back a remastered version of the prequel for a new crop of gamers to enjoy, all in one great package. Can this reincarnated version of Escape from Butcher Bay, Assault on Dark Athena, do enough to satisfy the needs of the 2009 gamer even with 2004 design?

Escape From Butcher Bay still remains a fantastic game on its own and, quite frankly, if this new version of the game was released on its own again, it would receive a higher score. Assault on Dark Athena is a nice game, but it has some major faults centered mainly on the massive change in gameplay chemistry that people loved so much in Escape from Butcher Bay.

The game contains few design flaws and bugs apart from the multiplayer which is an obvious afterthought being thrown in at Diesel’s request, though you do have to give the developers credit though for a nice variety of online modes. Riddick has a few faults which bring it down, but what it does have makes it a good game that can be enjoyed by many different types of gamers. With an unclear ending to Assault on Dark Athena, gamers can only hope for another sequel in what is already a great series.
