I love it that Caine's character takes every situation in his stride. Even when faced with impending doom at the end he still steps forward with an idea. You can't beat his cheeky optimism.

Much better than the latest version of the italian job, much more creative, alot more funnier and alot more interesting overall. The whole plot together was fantastic and the newest Italian job is a bit more something that you would find in an Mission Impossible film.

Taken from Tim Isaac's review on www.moviemuser.co.uk:
With older films on Blu-ray, you normally have to be prepared to give them a little leeway as they were never designed to be seen in the unflinching glare of 1080p HD in the home environment. It’s also true that time is likely to have degraded the source materials. However that’s not a problem with The Italian Job, where the new master Paramount have created is clean and crisp, with minimal grain and impressively sharp images. The colours may not be as bright as more modern movies (which is largely down to the colour film stock they used in the 60s), but it still looks absolutely fantastic. It’s a welcome upgrade for one of the 1960s most entertaining classics, where ex-con Charlie Croker and his gang go off to Turin with plans to steal a gold shipment by causing a traffic jam and getting away in some Minis. It’s great fan, with memorable performances, a script full of great lines (“You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off” has to be one of the greatest lines in movie history) and a sense of sheer class that’s made it one of the defining moments in Britain’s era of cool in the 1960s.

I enjoyed the original film, although it's definitely of its time and not aged as well as many. I've been shouted down on that front enough times though to know that I'm probably alone in that opinion.
I also liked the 'remake', even if I think it would have been much better if they hadn't called it The Italian Job - it was a decent film with a legacy that only harmed its acceptance.
I reckon I need to dig my Michael Caine collection out of the DVD stack and have a bit of a rewatch.

Amazingly not a big hit when it first came out - did nothing in the US...a classic "slow burner"
Fantastically written snapshot of Eurosceptic Britain at the end of the 60's. A perfect mix of of big Brit stars (Noel Coward, Irene Handl) and breakthrough young actors (Caine, Robert Powell), managing to create an iconic movie that Guy Ritchie and co have tried and failed to match.
Not sure there's much point in buying it on blu ray...but hey....

I've only ever seen the original. Never seen the remake of it with Mark Whalberg in.
I think it might ruin it for me!
My Dad got the PC game a few years ago and that was very fun to play and solve all the missions that appear in the film.
A brilliant, classic British movie that stands out as one of Michael Caine's best ever. - 2 years ago

Always though this was a bit like Don Siegel pastiched by benny hill, but an enjoyable film nonetheless.
If going back in time and removing it from the cannon meant there was no Guy Ritchie though, that would be a price worth paying, imho
