Mall-Mania! 1990 time-lapse

Joel Fletcher has created what he describes as 'a journey back in time to Los Angeles area shopping malls circa 1990' and it's surprisingly much more interesting than you'd think a video of a shopping centre would be.

He shot it on a Bolex 16 mm camera back in the day and only recently switched it to video. I'm glad he did.

    • Yeah, this is a really neat look back in time. I mean...if you didn't think it was cool then you probably aren't someone who likes to observe other people. Which isn't a bad thing. But I'm thinking this will be really cool in a couple decades...or a hundred years. I'm fascinated by images of people in the past. People living without foresight into future events in their life. And here we are watching these unsuspecting people in one normal day of their lives how ever many years ago. Fascinating! Thanks for posting.

    • Pretty cool. Looking back at the retro style of the early 90s, along with the way a shopping centre used to be before the age of the internet (i don't know about you guys, but i find them MUCH less crowded today)

      Very cool that he put this project together 19 years later.

      Joel Fletcher was cutting classes in High School, wasted time taking movies with his parent's 16mm camera trying to get chicks. Now that he's getting into his middle age, he's got to do SOMETHING to show for all the time he wasted as a kid.

      By putting music to this waste of camera and film, he can tell his parents: "You see, I DID amount to something!"

      Joel: You can never give me back the 10 minutes of my life I just wasted, but then, I didn't spend a year in a mall trying to get laid either...
