What I really don't get about the gender issues surrounding women in gaming is that a lot of the games being referenced are RPGs, where the player assumes the role of their avatar to interact with other avatars in a fictional world. Thus, the gender of the player is almost irrelevant as the focus is on the avatar. So with this in mind it confuses me as to why girl gamers are still being talked about like some sort of mythical creations.
