So this has caused a great debate amongst me and some of my friends and I thought I would bring it to Current to get some more perspective on it. Is it okay to protest the hunting of one animal yet promote your own line of goods which uses materials made from another animal? Im just surprised that she didnt speak up and suggest a vegan alternative to calfskin as there are many fashionable and animal friendly choices. To me that would make a bigger statement and show all the other "animal rights" celebrities that you can be fashionable and animal friendly. Or does it simply not matter? Why is the life of a dolphin more important than a cow? And when can I get my limited edition dolpinskin purse?

Everyone is a hypocrite, everyone. It's something that can't be helped. My hypocrisy? Well, I'm a long time, strict vegetarian, but I own a couple pairs of leather shoes. My take on it is that I'm not a terrible person if I have a few leather items, because I will never eat a piece of meat, therefor no animals are being slaughtered for my daily consumption.
*It would have been nice though is she made vegan items because after all she is promoting mass production of animal products, which the average animal rights hypocrite does not do. - 2 years ago

I agree, I was vegetarian for many years and still owned some leather items...but I wasnt campaigning for animal rights and marching on Washington. And even if you are against slaughtering animals and you own a few pieces I still think that is very different form having your own line of leather products and promoting them in mass. Thats what I take issue with, not that she wears leather but that she is promoting it and selling it. As a public figure she has an opportunity to stand up for what she supposedly believes in and mass market a vegan alternative to leather handbags wouldve made a bigger statement than 1000 protests. Many supposed animal rights celebrities seem to throw their beliefs out the window when it comes to fashion, I just wish they would take a stand and practice what they preach.

I totally agree that it would be so refreshing if the people with huge amount of money power and influence would do something useful with it. It's really disappointing when these celebs only go half way with their causes. The opportunities are at their feet, yet they do nothing with them.

Not all species of dolphins are endangered and I still dont get the argument that intelligence should dictate what is okay and not okay to slaughter. Rabbits, chinchillas, several breeds of dog and yes pandas are all not the sharpest tools in the shed.
My point is that if youre going out there campaigning and screaming at people to save the animals yet turn around and promote your own line of baby cow skin bags, then you are a pretty big hypocrite.
