Forget what Tim Roth says in 'Lie To Me' - new research claims that facial expression AREN'T global.
Going against what was previously thought, the report claims that the looks of fear and disgust are confused by some people from different cultures.
From the BBC:
'The work published in Current Biology journal challenges the idea facial expressions are universally understood.
In the study, East Asians were more likely than Westerners to read the expression for "fear" as "surprise", and "disgust" as "anger".'

I love that this means differences in emoticons too. In the West it's all based on the mouth so :-) and :-(
Whereas in the East it's all about the eyes (^_^) = Happy
