What do WoW, Winona Ryder and Depeche Mode have in common?

They're all involved in one of the craziest lawsuits you've ever heard of.

San Jose gamer Erik Estavillo is suing World of Warcraft makers because their popular MMPORG is a "harmful virtual environment" that may cause alienation.
To prove this point, the gamer is casting a few celebrities that might help him out.

Estavillo has subpoeanaed Depeche Mode's Martin L. Gore "since he himself has been known to be sad, lonely, and alienated, as can be seen in the songs he writes." He also called Winona Ryder to testify because her appreciation for Catcher in the Rye will make her a relevant witness "to how alienation in the book can tie to alienation in real live [sic]/video games such as World of Warcraft."

The gamer is asking for $1 million in punitive damages. Good luck!

    • But, if he plays all the time, then he presumably had many virtual friends that he wouldn't have had without the game. In addition, the stars that he wants have both made lots of money off of being outcasts! So, where are the damages they suffered?

I think this comes down to nobody wanting to have sex with him at WoW conventions.

And, what if they granted his wish and kicked him out of the WoW world? Then he's have even less friends!

    • omg, wtf. I'm a gamer, I've sat up playing games till my eyes bleed and then wondered why there was no girl in my bed the next morning. BUT I made that choice as so Its MY fault. Erik what you are doing is leaching, sucking off the work of others. Either become a good enough gamer and go compete, or get good at life. Sounds like you suck at both, maybe society should sue you for wasting its time and space.

ps. If he really thinks the celebs are there for him and not for their own publicity gains then he really is sad and lonely.
pps. maybe he should look more closely at his parenting as the root of his issues.
