Update to Articles critical of local government trigger cyber-attacks on journalist - Lexington courts | Examiner.com

A reader questioned my claim that I had received a virus from a Facebook invitation and other claims in a recent article. I stated in the article that I would be gathering the information and posting it in an update to the article. Due to the possibility that others may question my claim I decided to post the update sooner rather than later.

The first example is a copy of the Facebook invitation that contained the virus (keylogger) from a person intimately involved with the Lexington police department. The first link is the one that contained a virus so DO NOT click on that link. I am not a computer expert and therefore I do not know if the link would continuously infect anyone who clicks on it.

    • Thank you very much. I have a more computer friendly friend coming over in the next few days and I will have him work on your suggestion. The name on the Facebook invitation and then another message received in my inbox from the sister of the person in the Facebook invitation, both related to Lexington police officers, is how I am currently linking this virus to someone there. However, I would love to have hard evidence, such as IP addresses from some of the websites and an address from the virus found using your instructions would be over the top. Once again, thanks for the suggestion.

    • I read what you had experianced on Facebook three days ago and I and an associate also had similar experience through an a phony invitation to an event that lead to a log-in page and then to a site about a free iPhone. I quickly changed my password after I realized what was going on ! To backup your story "yes" you are correct! It seems there are a lot of very well written hacks out there phishing for your private info and passwords. Now on facebook too.

As to your source of the Trojan the Lexington Police. Yes that could be where the email came from but, that email you got most likely came from another infected computer. As is the case with trojans hijacking your address book and sending out invitations to others, as also was the case with me associate three days ago. If you really want to trace the keyloger back to the source of the crime. I do not suggest that you do the... Or " Kids Don't Try This At Home!!!"
But, what I have done... Is isolate the trojan / keylogger and change the last three assignment letters to ( .txt) and open it as a text file. And look for an email address where your info is being sent. That is where the criminal is located.

I have been successful in locating who sent keyloggers to me.

I hope that helps get things back on track for you.
