NEW: Libyan officials call the fatal NATO airstrike illegal and a "war crime"
Saif al-Arab Gadhafi dies after NATO missile strikes his house, a Libyan official says
Moammar Gadhafi and his wife were in the house at the time but are in good health
The victim is one of two of Gadhafi's sons named Saif

(CNN) -- One of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's sons -- Saif al-Arab Gadhafi -- was killed after a NATO airstrike, a spokesman for Libya's government said Sunday at a press conference.

Moammar Gadhafi and his wife were in their son's house when it was targeted, spokesman Musa Ibrahim said. Both of them are in good health, according to the spokesman.

The victim is one of two of Gadhafi's sons named Saif. The other is Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, who had previously touted reform but has emerged as one of his father's most visible defenders in recent months.

The house in Tripoli was destroyed by the strike, with a massive crater where the house used to be. At least one unexploded bomb could be seen at the scene.

The building was in a residential area of Tripoli, according to Ibrahim, who insisted that Saif al-Arab Gadhafi was a student in Germany who was not deeply involved in Libya's military and government.

Ibrahim railed against NATO after the fatal strike, calling it an illegal act and a "war crime."

This is not the first time that Moammar Gadhafi has been at the site of an airstrike that killed one of his children.

In April 1986, U.S. forces launched an airstrike that targeted Moammar Gadhafi's residential compound. As a result, the Libyan leader's adopted daughter, Hanna Gadhafi, was killed.

At the time, President Ronald Reagan told the American people the bombings were an act of self-defense following the bombing of a West Berlin club that killed two American servicemen and injured several others.

Bizarre Adulation? Gaddafi's Son Grandchildren Murdered by Queen's Royal Air Force after Royal Wedding?

NATO has murdered the son and grandchildren of the leader of Socialist Libya, a former colony of imperialist nations that are now bombing a Libya that had risen to giving its citizens a higher standard than nine European nations including Russia - far and away #1 in Africa with free health care and free higher education.(1)

      Why target Gaddafi?

Gaddafi is the foremost leader of the movement for a United Africa to free the continent of European economic exploitation.

Gaddafi had frightened the private investment financial capital speculators with his minting of gold dinars to use instead of dollars and euros, undermining the central banking system that corporatocracy uses it to plunder the planet. Libya's bank is 100% state owned and is estimated by the IMF to have 144 tons of gold in its vaults.(2)

Gaddafi is seen as blocking the penetrating efforts of the US Africa Command, praised this
month by members of congress for leading the opening days of the Libyan military campaign.

Gaddafi had been favoring China as a customer for Libya's vast oil reserves, and recently raising the price on the giant Western petroleum companies operating in Libya.

Gaddafi is also the most prominent critic of US use of the Security Council to approve and aid its wars and foreign policy against multiple Muslim nations. Gaddafi, addressing the UN General Assembly said it should be called the "Terror Council"

Is Gaddafi targeted for assassination in order to protect the Libyan citizenry?
      The reader can decide.

After all the corporate owned media cartel decades of war propaganda, preposterous lies, disinformation, blackouts of news unfavorable to the U.S before, during and after past U.S. invasions and bombings of Korea, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Lebanon, Dominican Republic, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Iran, Cuba and Grenada, any TV viewer who believes CNN and the rest of the corporate owned media, that these wild heavily armed men (CNN newscasters standing beside their pickup trucks with mounted cannons cheering the rebels for democracy on) were ever peaceful protesters and democrats, and have never killed anyone except the government soldiers and militias who are targeting civilians, should have his or her head examined.

The murder of the children of Libya's revolutionary leader was bracketed in time by the Royal Wedding the day before and White House Correspondents Dinner the evening of the afternoon of the sudden forced departure of Gaddafi's son and grandchildren from the living (most assuredly along with quite a few of their countrymen who died in the cross fire or in the cross hairs of other warplanes on the same day during a civil war surely well orchestrated by agents covertly operating for overseas interests.

The Royal Wedding showed off pomp and pride in the military style of the British Empire. This viewer couldn't find a single nonwhite face in the crowd or participants in the hours long ceremony covered on TV. Yet the brutally conquered and exploited subjects of the English Kings and Queens ( one in six of all people on Earth at the time of this author "s birth ) were almost entirely nonwhite subjects.

Was it a missile fired from a Royal Air Force plane that was meant to kill Gaddafi? Or was it a French plane taking of from and Italian air field? What's the difference? All three imperialist nations had once militarily occupied what is today Libya. (Italy alone murdering a million in what was Tripoli and Cyrenaica.)

At the festive White House Correspondents Dinner as the TV camera panned the prestigious guests reminded of the British event as flags paraded in the hall to the sound of martial music and marching feet.

Especially since Gadhafi sometimes seems pretty deranged. But I sincerely doubt that he would have any reason whatsoever to bring his wife and children to a command center. And seeing how this is the third time Gadhafi has nearly been killed while in a home that was later claimed to be a command center, and the third time there has been civilian deaths in relation to such an event, I am becoming disinclined to believe such an excuse.

When the west kills Babies with million $$ munitions it is much more civilized. It is not really killing it is unfortunate collateral damage. Here is how you tell the difference, if a bunch of children are killed by a $1.5 Million Tomahawk Missile it is collateral damage if they are killed by a $200 home made bomb it is a terrorist attack.

Lesser of two evils my ass! You people need to wash all of that feces off of your heads and get a grip. I guess all you suckers will get duped a second time in 2012, I learned my lesson the hard way. Until we go with a true independent that is not being pimped by lobbyists, we will all be flushing our votes down the drain. We need to vote for something instead of against something. keep on consuming all the propaganda the media is force feeding you!

I am too and frankly, though I know Gaddafi is a bastard children didn't deserve to die. Just what the hell are we turning into? The beast we seek to defeat? I thought Libya was about liberation for the people, so when did it turn into NATO'S revenge? Have they hit oil fields? The great water project going on there? Hell no, because that is what they really want. Personally, I think bombing children is just as evil as what he did to others in his country. That may not be popular with the Obama supporters here who seem to just back him up no matter what he does under the guise of NATO that is like Reagan or Bush and it is surely no defense of Gaddafi, but come on, CHILDREN? And some more of my honesty: The man has been there for over forty years, and just NOW the world is getting around to wanting him gone? That's a lot of murder and dictatorship the world allowed... Seems peak oil and water are great motivators huh?

And they have the nerve to suggest that their way of killing is more humane than Gaddafi's because of the "precision" on the weapons. There were more than three killed and I thought this was all about Gaddafi killing his own people. Not about toppling his government. Or murdering his family. It's just more murder for oil. And the elite in the process of creation of their one world government where they have total control over all governments. We will have a perfect kum-by-ya world in which we can all slave to our masters. Sickening to think of what's going to be left in the wake for our children to live in.

When the fuck are we going to stop these wars against vulnerable little middle eastern countries.
I don't care about their internal situations, let them handle that themselves. These attacks are immoral.

I now know better . This country is waring itself into history . After it is impoverished , it will likely break into smaller countries , like the former Soviet Union . It turns out , corporations were a bad idea . As it is they who are dictating our future , and not WE . If Gahdafis' people had their own government , it would have been peaceful . Because MOST people do not want War . It is just too profitable a temptation for the corporate persons to resist . Perhaps We can do better next time .

      BBC...

Nato strike 'kills Saif al-Arab Gaddafi', Libya says

A Nato air strike in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, has killed the son of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, a government spokesman has said.

Colonel Gaddafi himself was in the large residential villa which was hit by the strike, the spokesman added, but was unharmed.

His son Saif al-Arab was said to be dead, as well as three grandchildren.

Nato has confirmed the air strike, without denying or confirming the reported deaths.

A Nato spokesman said the strike had hit a "known command and control building in the Bab al-Azizya neighbourhood".

"All Nato's targets are military in nature... We do not target individuals," said Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard.

He said that he was aware of reports that members of Col Gaddafi's family had been killed, but made no further comment.

"We regret all loss of life, especially the innocent civilians being harmed as a result of the ongoing conflict," said Lt-Gen Charles Bouchard.

Earlier this evening we heard three enormous explosions to the west of the city. Normally we are taken to the bomb sites within an hour, but tonight there were a lot of concerned faces around the hotel, a lot of whispering and secrecy.

Two hours later we were eventually brought to the villa, which was surrounded by reinforced concrete, cameras, and military positions. This is clearly an exclusive neighbourhood. Inside, total destruction.

There were signs there had been a family gathering. There were no bodies in the house, they had been removed, and we are reliant on the government's account of what happened.

It's hard to imagine that anyone could have escaped unscathed, though according to the government spokesman the Libyan leader and his wife were present and are safe and well. But there's no independent evidence they were there.

Journalists takent to the site of the air strike in Tripoli said the building was extensively damaged and one unexploded bomb remains at the site.

Saif al-Arab, who had a lower profile than his brother Saif al-Islam, had been studying in Germany and returned to Libya recently.

Government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said the villa in which he was killed was attacked "with full power".

"The attack resulted in the martyrdom of brother Saif al-Arab Muammar Gaddafi, 29 years old, and three of the leader's grandchildren," he said.

"The leader with his wife was there in the house with other friends and relatives, the leader himself is in good health, he wasn't harmed." Col Gaddafi's wife was also unharmed, he said.

"This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country," the spokesman added.

There has been no independent confirmation of the deaths.
      'Law of the jungle'

Libyan rebels began a campaign in mid-February to end more than four decades of rule by Col Gaddafi.

Government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim: "Direct operation to assassinate the leader"

Since last month they have been aided by an international coalition acting on a UN mandate to protect Libyan civilians.

Mr Ibrahim said the attack late on Saturday was against international law.

"We ask the world to look into this carefully because what we have now is the law of the jungle," he said.

"How is this helping in the protection of civilians? Mr Saif al-Arab was a civilian, a student... He was playing and talking to his father and mother and his nieces and nephews and other visitors when he was attacked and killed for no crime he committed."

An adopted daughter of Col Gaddafi's was killed in 1986 by a US air strike launched in response to alleged Libyan involvement in the bombing of a Berlin disco frequented by US military personnel.

Mr Ibrahim accused the international coalition conducting air strikes over Libya of not wanting peace.

"We have again and again declared that we are ready for negotiation, ready for road maps for peace, ready for political transitional periods, ready for elections, ready for a referendum.

"Nato does not care to test our promises. The West does not care to test our statements. They only care to rob us of our freedom, our wealth, which is oil, and our right to decide out future as Libyans."

Gunfire rang out in celebration in the eastern rebel stronghold of Benghazi following the news that Saif al-Arab Gaddafi had been killed.
      'Violating human rights'

The strike that Libya said had killed Saif al-Arab Gaddafi came less than a day after a speech by his father was broadcast on state TV, in which Col Gaddafi called for a ceasefire and negotiations.

During his speech the Libyan government reported a Nato air attack on a complex that includes the state TV building, which it said was also designed to kill Col Gaddafi.

Several air strikes against Col Gaddafi's sprawling Bab al-Aziziya compound have been reported recently.

Earlier this week, US Defence Secretary Robert Gates told reporters that Libyan government command and control centres were "legitimate" targets, although Nato was not targeting Col Gaddafi specifically.

On Saturday, Nato officials said the alliance would not consider talks until government forces stopped attacks on civilians.

The vice-chairman of the Transitional National Council also rejected the offer of negotiations, saying the Libyan leader had "offered ceasefires only to continue violating basic human rights, international humanitarian law, and the safety and security of Libya and the entire region".

Libyan government spokesman says air strike kills Saif al-Arab Gaddafi and three of the Libyan leader's grandsons.
      Last Modified: 30 Apr 2011 23:05

Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, the youngest son of the Libyan leader, and three of his grandchildren have been killed in a NATO air strike, a Libyan government spokesman said.

Gaddafi and his wife were in the Tripoli house of his 29-year-old son, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, when it was hit by at least one missile fired by a NATO warplane late on Saturday, according to Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim.

"The house of Mr Saif al-Arab Gaddafi was attacked tonight with full power. The leader with his wife was there in the house with other friends and relatives.

"The leader himself is in good health, he wasn't harmed," the spokesman said, adding that Muammar Gaddafi's wife was also unharmed but other people in the house were injured.

"This was a direct attempt to assassinate the leader of the country", Ibrahim said.

The 29-year-old Saif al-Arab Gaddafi is the most unknown of the Libyan leader's children, Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught, reporting from Libya, said.

"He's one of the low-profile of his children and has been largely invisible since the conflict began", she said.

Ibrahim said Saif al-Arab was a civilian and a student who had studied in Germany.

Ibrahim had earlier taken journalists to the remnants of a house in Tripoli. Given the level of destruction, it is unclear that anyone could have survived.

Three loud explosions were heard in Tripoli on Saturday evening as jets flew overhead. Volleys of anti-aircraft fire rang out following the first two strikes, which were followed by a third.

If he allows TPTB to get the resources of Libya while giving Obama a notch in his campaign belt, then all is forgiven? Is that even close to being justice? It shouldn't matter whether he leaves or not, he is still guilty no? So how does killing children who did nothing to you help this situation?
