Current TV site is losing viewers!

Image
TommyNY
I have been following the ranking of Current.com site on Alexa.com and it has been losing hits to the site every day. As of April 1st it was sitting comfortably at 1,800, which is not bad, but since then it has dropped to 2,800. Who is to blame for this? Is the the MTV format or is there another site out gathering up the left leaning viewers?

Or do we get silenced like you usually do?

    • Al Gore gave Keith an equity stake in Current TV and named him Chief News Officer along with the development of the rest of the network's news programming. I hope come June/July, Keith will step in and shake up this MTV channel. I can already see a conflict between Keith and the MTV clowns at Current. I hope Gore realize that the reason we are here is just for Keith and start shaking things before he's on the air, starting with this site. That why it confuses me that all our news got shove back to inner pages.

Yep, he is the boss. Can you see the in-fighting already? Keith got the prime 8pm slot, and hopefully he can have another news show right after him, sort of how it was when Maddow followed him on MSNBC. But I'm sure MTV wants a prime time slot too, probably the fight will be for 9pm or 10pm. I have an idea, how about giving MTV between 1am to 5am, so we'll all be asleep when it's on.

    • Well maybe you wouldn't lose so many viewers if you'd play full episodes of your T.V shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! everyone would like to but doesn't get your channel and refuses to pay a high bill for all the other crap on t.v; i swear mainstream t.v is just grounded out about like cheap cheap Vienna sausages. Help us help you.

    • Yeah, I must say the programming is horrendus. I think they had the exact same programming 3 days in a row last week. Half the time the channel isn't even on the air. GreenTV has much better programming. Current needs to focus on shows about nature and such, not reality shows about BS.

    • Let's see...
they took out all user content from the front page,
they have added tons of MTV media and
      don't care what we think....
it makes sense why people keep leaving... They want younger audience and want to promote their comedy, their programming and reality series... sounds just like MTV to me...

I'm waiting for jersey shore to show up here, that's when i leave for good...

BTW, add some minorities please... I shouldn't be asking and shouldn't be wondering why everyone on your shows, besides two Asians, are white. Last time i checked, this country is very diverse... not just one color!

I don't know that the "striving for a younger audience" and "they don't want community feedback" are derived of ONE AND THE same root intent; they both exist as independent goals and desires.

      http://current.com/items/popular/
That way, I completely avoid the bullshit stories that current.com has decided to force upon it's waning "community."

In general, though, it appears that there is only a handful of about 10 to 15 people here that constantly respond to one another and post stories.

But Current is a left leaning website, I would say about 80% right now. I want it to be at least 70/30 or better yet 60/40.

That won't happen when all of the liberals vote down conservatives just because they disagree with their viewpoint. So crystalman and congoboy get a lot of down votes undeservingly.

    • What we need is a letter from the Current TV executives defining the new mission/focus of Current TV..

Is it the democratization of TV or not, has the mission statement changed.

I would love for Joel Hyatt or Al Gore to explain WTF is going on and where are they taking Current TV.

    • tverdell:

      Here is what is confusing.

      1) Vanguard is the best thing Current has ever produced, yet this show has been on hiatus for months.
      2) There is a serious demand/audience for VC2 content yet they refuse to bring this back even in a limited form. They already have the infrastructure, web site and fan base in place. So WTF, why not try it out for one hour a week. Replace it with those reruns of Biggie and Tupac for Christs sake.
      3) Bar Karma is the bleeding edge of crowdsourced television entertainment, yet they are not sure if they will renew the show. I know this is a fact because if you google crowdsourced televison you will see that Bar Karma is in a league by itself.
      4) Where is Keith Olbermann and what are his vision for cable television news outside of his show CountDown. I have read articles where Gore and Olbermann want to reinvent cable television news -- well what are you planning.
      5) And put some qualified minorities on Current TV (television station) and the board of executives.
      6) What is http://upcoming.current.com

This is just off of the top of my head.

But Gore and/or Hyatt should address the community.
For Bar Karma, Will Wright and Nina (representative) was always accessible and that made all of the difference.

    • I am an old user as well. I stumbled upon Current TV by mere luck and I stayed because of the quality of the news you couldnt see anywhere else.

Little by little, we started seeing and knowing Conor and Brett and all those guys, which made our stay at Current amicable and nice.
But now is just ridiculous. By all means, message you are trying to send is:

We dont want a current community, we just want you to watch the shows.

And If thats the case, im leaving. Why? Because im tired of watching stupid shows. I mean they are funny and all, and they help to get you through the day, but the most important thing of this website is/was the user-content news, the user-supported news and the community around it.

      ADDENDUM - (edit)

      You are failing.
      You are killing current.
You are trying to make a bad-copy of MTV and most of us already hate MTV (why would you want to copy something so bad?)

I dont care about the gay guy travelling the green-screen, bar karma or who made voice of Bin Laden (seems like your running out of stupid things to say?)

The only promising thing of this site right now is Keith which I think will be leaving soon if you people dont straight up your shit. This isnt Comedy Central, this isnt MTV, this is CURRENT, where user-content lives and thrives.

( Its NOT really a CREDIT to the organization that it has become boomer over run,....and I'm speaking as one. More flexibility and snap in younger psyches,....more of an explorers mentality,...so features can have a broader and edgier spin to them )

      - programing DOES NOT get "LESS lame" with an aging demographic,....but the ADVERTISING dollars are better invested,....up tp a certain age threshold

In these tough economic times, people are getting back to nature finding living spaces in trees and under bridges. Most cable shows are reenacted in community get togethers around burning barrels into the wee hours of the night. With ever decreasing wages and Americas race to the bottom line and the unemployment line, the rich forgot one thing! The people......

If the site is steadily losing hits, the new guy is obviously doing something wrong. Keith Olbermann's viewers are not the MTV crowd. (I would know, I go to his web site daily) The people who post comments there are Boomers and older. This site is not going to take viewership away from Stewart and Colbert. That's who the MTV and Gen Xer crowd watch. BTW, Keith will be on David Letterman's show May 11th. I'm sure he's going to mention Current TV and the fact that he debuts here on June 20th.

    • Bring back Al Gore's original vision and stop trying to make this site MTV. Not all young people are into that crap, and frankly you do a great disservice to them and all of us here who come here for the quality discussions we once had. I have been here since the very beginning and I can tell you this is not the place it once was. It has become nothing more than a partisan political shouting match with nothing being accomplished. I came here to report and see reports on news and human interest stories we don't see on MSM (GMOs for example) that empower people to positive action. Current needs to be a place that motivates and inspires young people and all of its members into activism and actually making the world a better place through the groundbreaking intermingling of tv/Internet/citizen journalism. Not being another partisan site like Daily Kos or even Red State where all they do is bash, trash and spread propaganda as if they are a campaign arm for their parties. Keith Olberman if truly independent may make a difference (and I do hope so) but in all honesty without your members and their creativity which was Al Gore's groundbreaking vision as well, I don't think it will last long. So message to Current: People come here to get away from the very thing you are becoming. Take note of that. And if getting rid of old members was their plan of action, they failed with me. I'm not going anywhere. This is my site as was said to us by Mr. Gore when this first started, and no MTV exec is going to change that for me.
